What is Roundup ready and what are Roundup-ready crops? Roundup Ready is a trademark name for a patent-pending line of genetically modified seeds that are immune to the herbicide glyphosate, Roundup. These plants are known as Roundup Ready crops.
Roundup Then, was it really invented?
John Franz (Monsanto Chemist) first recognized Glyphosate as a herbicide in Roundup. In the ag industry, the majority of herbicides were pre-emergent. This means they were applied prior to the crop and weeds emerged. Glyphosate's post-emergent function in tackling large amounts of broadleaf and grass weeds herbicides was very different. This, combined with its extraordinary environmental properties (soil activation rapid decay, zero carryover , etc.) and toxicological properties (extremely low toxicity for mammals and beneficial organisms) it made the product a breakthrough.

Roundup(r) is an herbicide with broad spectrum, was first introduced on the market in 1974. It quickly grew to become a top-selling chemical for agriculture. This was the first field test of Roundup Ready tomato plants. After a few years, the Roundup Ready trait, which was the bacteria genetic, was isolated and introduced to other crops.

Roundup Ready soybeans are genetically engineered soybeans with their DNA changed to be able to resist Roundup's herbicide glyphosate. This soybean is intolerant to Roundup because every seed is equipped with the Roundup Ready gene that has been infected before it's planted. This allows farmers to spray their fields with herbicides without having to end their plants.
