Is tapwater contaminated by the herbicide glyphosate? Where did the unsubstantiated reports originate?
What is a glyphosate herbicide ? And what is its purpose?

Glyphosate (ingredient name "glyphosate isopropylamine salt") is an herbicide used in gardening and agriculture all over the globe, including Japan. After being sprayed, it's absorption from the green parts such as leaves and stems, moves to the roots, and eventually withers the entire. Because it is an herbicide that is non-selective the plants will all die if the agent is applied to the leaf's surface. Glyphosate-based herbicides are often sold by pesticide manufacturers since the patent time period for their components has expired. ラウンドアップ in the marketplace have been thoroughly tested and are therefore reliable.

Glyphosate's safety is one of its key features. It's low in toxicity to animals due to an inhibitor mechanism that prevents enzymes from being activated by plants. When the chemical solution is applied to soil, it is a food source for microorganisms. They are able to differentiate the solution into water, carbon and oxygen. It is a renowned pesticide that is widely used worldwide, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions because it allows no-tillage agriculture.

Tap water is secure

Is glyphosate added to tap water?

Weekly Shincho declared, April 2020: "In Japan there is no standard for glyphosate which is present in the tap water. ラウンドアップ is only the Target value." This value is higher than those of other pesticides and other countries. This also includes drinking water that is polluted by pesticides. In an article, I said that there was. There has been speculation that high concentrations could remain in the tap water. It is not the case.

First , the reason why glyphosate does not have the designation of a "standard value" but only a "target value" is that , if the draft water quality standard value (concentration that is safe even when you drink 2L of tap water daily for the rest of your life) is glyphosate, 10 minutes of 2 ppm. https://app.glosbe.com/profile/7005683826269621444 is due to the fact that the concentration exceeding 0.2ppm (which is one) which is a single digit, has never been found in water from the tap. In fact, in a survey of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in Japan, there were no instances of glyphosate found in water from taps in Japan with a concentration exceeding 0.02 ppm. There is absolutely no risk of being detected.

In addition the glyphosate that is sprayed decays in the soil at a rate that is diminished by half within two days. Therefore, ラウンドアップ will be transported to rivers and tap water at the same concentration and won't be a source of pollution.

Japanese tap water is healthy

Tap water from Japan has been found to be safe. It's safe to consume tap water as it is. There are 51 items of inspection to be completed before selling tap water. It is under strict quality control , as mandated by law. Water is classified as "acidic", "neutral" and "alkaline" depending on the pH difference, but the tap water of Japan is regulated by the water quality standard to ensure that the pH is near neutral (5.8 or more , and 8.6 or less). Iron rust is still possible when the water supply pipes are damaged.

How does tap water get produced? Tap water is primarily made from water sources such as dam lakes and rivers. After cleansing the water then adding chlorine to sterilize it. The tap water is piped to homes.

ラウンドアップ of Japanese standard value for pesticide residues

The current glyphosate residue standards for wheat is in Japan 5 ppm. The standard was 5 ppm up to December 2017. There are many opinions regarding this issue, including "We reduced the limit to 30ppm 6 times and deplored health damage."

Glyphosate in tap water

The residual standard for glyphosate has the same amount that is the standard international.

But the fact of the issue is that we did adjust the standard to the international standard's residual standard value, not loosen it. Japan imports huge quantities of wheat from South America and the United States. The importer (the foreign producer) determines the amount of glyphosate used according to the international standard (30ppm). However, Japan's 5ppm standard threshold will trigger imports to be halted when it exceeds the standard. If this occurs, there could be a disruption in the bread wheat supply and Japanese food may be in danger. The standard value has been updated to match the standards of international quality. Additionally, safety isn't an issue with current standard values.

To avoid consumers being in a hurry to be influenced by emotions about pesticide residues, it is important to gain the right knowledge based on scientific research conducted by experts. It is important to be content with your food choices and not be distracted by rumors.
