Pohon ini salah satu material pembuatan wand. Tanaman ini dapat ditemukan di wilayah Pasifik Selatan terutama di Kepulauan Solomon.
Pohon ini memang bisa mengurangi polusi udara sekitar 47% - 69% dengan daun2nya yg bertugas menyerap polutan-polutan di sekitarnya. Sebaliknya, dedaunan itu akan melepaskan oksigen (O2) yg membuat udara di sekitarnya menjadi segar. Oleh karna itu pohon itu disebut pelindung sekaligus filter udara.
Pohon ini termasuk kedalam pohon besar. tinggi pohonnya saja bisa mencapai 35–40 m dengan diameter mencapai 125 cm. Kulit luar pohin ini berwarna cokelat kehitaman, beralur dangkal seperti sisik, sedangkan kulit batang berwarna abu-abu dan halus ketika masih muda, berubah menjadi cokelat tua, beralur dan mengelupas setelah tua.

Mahkota bunganya berbentuk silindris, berwarna kuning kecoklatan, sementara benang sarinya melekat pada mahkota kepala sari berwarna putih dan kuning kecoklatan.
Tanaman ini dapat tumbuh subur bila tumbuh di pasir payau dekat dengan pantai. Tanaman ini juga digunakan untuk Menyehatkan Jantung,Mengontrol Gula Darah,Penangkal Serangga, Mengatasi Sembelit, dan lainnya.
Suatu waktu dilakukan sebuah penelitian pada biji mahoni oleh Laurentia Mihardja, peneliti asal Center For Research and Development of Disease Control atau NIHRD. Untuk mengetahui khasiat buah mahoni dalam menurunkan glukosa darah. Percobaan dilakukan pada hewan yang diberi ekstrak mahoni dosis 45 mg/ 160 g bb setelah 7 hari. Setelah 7 hari penelitian menunjukkan hasil berbeda yang signifikan dibanding pelarut serta tidak berbeda dengan glikazide 7,2 mg/200 g bb.
