When making a Minecraft server, there are plenty of possibilities. This guide currently covers the setup of an Survival Multiplayer Server without mods. We'll be adding more guides to help you set up a server that has mods in the future.
Create a Vanilla Survival Multiplayer Server (MSP)
These steps will allow you to get a public Minecraft Java server in the shortest amount of time.
1. Download and install Java Java
You can download the latest version of Java from Oracle.
2. Download the Minecraft Server from the official Minecraft Server
This is minecraft.net's download page.
3. Create an account for your Minecraft server
This folder can be named and placed wherever you'd like. I do recommend making it something simple and easy to find. I love to call the folder minecraft server and place it in my User/Home folder.
4. Install your Minecraft server folder
Transfer your downloaded server.jar file into your minecraft folder.
On Windows: create the file run.bat. Windows Create a batch file (.bat).
On MacOS or Linux: create a new file named run.sh.
Edit the file and set the text to be your default text.
5. Create your server and accept the EULA
With your run file now created Let's start the server.
Windows: Double-click your run.bat folder
MacOS / Linux: Go to the terminal to your minecraft folder, and type bash./run.sh.
The command line should show some logs. Minecraft-server-list.fun will be filled with new folders and files. Find and open the eual.txt file and replace the eula=false line with the eula=true.
6. Connect to your server by running the following command
Now with the eula accepted restart your server following the same process as in 5.. Open Minecraft and connect directly using 127.0.0.1:25565. Check that your server is running if you are not able to connect. If everything is fine and you're unsure why you cannot connect seek help on our discord.
7. Make your server available to the public
Now you can connect to your server from anywhere. Let's make it accessible for friends so they can join. Go to the interactive guide.
