Students will be able to login to Minecraft: Education Edition using their AISD email address. (Students will find this information in the AISD Portal's User Profile menu.) When a student has entered an AISD email, the student will be required to input their student ID and password into an AISD Portal popup window. This will happen regardless of which device the student is using.
This page has links below for installing Minecraft: Education Edition on any student device. Scroll down to your device to find specific instructions. Students should always discuss the process of installation with their parents prior to attempting to install on a personal home computer.

Instructions for Installing on Austin ISD Student Chromebooks
Austin ISD Chromebooks capable of running the Android version of Minecraft Education Edition must first access the Minecraft installation page on the Google Play Store. Chromebooks designed for students should be able to be able to locate the Google Play icon at the lower right of the screen.
Only district approved apps can be downloaded from the Google Play store app. Click on the Minecraft Install button in Google Play.

Instructions for installing on non-Austin ISD Windows Computers
Click the purple Windows button to download Minecraft: Education Edition Windows Desktop Edition. The downloaded file must be opened and located. (It is likely to be in a new tab at the bottom of the browser or in the Windows Downloads folder.)
The Windows operating system will guide you through the installation process. Select the language you prefer and then accept the End-User License Agreement. Continue to click Next until you are asked to click the Install button. The installation can take a few minutes before you see a Finish button that will complete the installation.
Instructions for Installing Macintosh Computers
Click the purple MAC button to download Minecraft Education Edition for Macintosh. The downloaded file should be located and opened. Minecraft servers It should be in the Downloads folder or in a new tab at the bottom.
The Macintosh operating systems will guide you through the installation process. Select the language you prefer and agree to the End-User License Agreement. Continue to click Next until you are asked to click the Install button. It is possible for the installation to take several minutes before you see the Finish button. This will end the installation.

Once an instructor has installed Minecraft Education Edition on an Austin ISD student iPad, students can access Minecraft. During school hours, find the app in the Creator Apps section of the iPad.
Download Minecraft onto your iPad from the iTunes Store. Minecraft is a no-cost download. Click here to show you the app on the iTunes store.
Installing the Screencastify Screen Capture Extension
A live demonstration of the learning is a great method of demonstrating the concept. Video screen capture is a great way to show an online activity to students or teachers to capture an electronic product using their recorded voice to describe it.
Screencastify is a Chrome extension approved by Austin ISD. Students and staff can add the extension to their Chrome Web Store.
Screencastify Instructions for Students To Install Screencastify
Austin Independent School District Chrome Web Store is available to students. From there, any approved apps can be downloaded. This is the only way to install a Chrome extension or Chrome app on an Austin ISD Chromebook. Open the Chrome launcher on the Chromebook. Locate and open the Chrome Web Store App. Click the Austin Independent School District link to browse the library of approved apps. This page will help you find Screencastify and install it.

Capture Your Video
Once the Screencastify extension is installed, all students are able to create videos up to 5 minutes. Before you begin recording, practice your group presentation. The presentation video should not exceed 2 minutes long. The video below illustrates what it might appear like when you are capturing the video of your world.

Optional Editing of Your Video
You can be as imaginative as you like when you create your world or recording your video. Screencastify lets students make edits. Your AISD account comes with a simple video editor. Learn more about editing videos from Screencastify's support page.
