If you've got money in your pocket, you're more comfortable investing. Mutual funds, index funds and stocks -- Investing in mutual funds and index funds is another excellent way to manage your retirement. Even if it saves time and streamlines recordkeeping, it isn't something you can put your hands on and file in a tangible way. This piggy bank family knows how to save and still have a good time. Banks do allow access going back months or even years, but having ready access to files you need -- when you need them -- may be easiest when they're on your own system. Gaining a reputation for having people in place when it matters most -- for example when you just can't locate a statement or receipt and you have a large shortfall in your account that you can't explain -- might increase customer satisfaction so more people might be willing to let go of paper. Treating customers well and generating word-of-mouth advertising is a very people-centered approach and it may seem to go against the idea of paperless banking, but perhaps banks can help customers most by having enough people in place to support the lack of paper. Cutting out the paper saves the banks money, but this doesn't always trickle down to the customer. Simply moving the file to a folder without reviewing it is a little too easy. Going paperless can still include a little bit if paper, or maybe, some good, recycled cardstock. Should banks be doing more to help you go totally paperless? Two things are certain when it comes to going paperless: Banks save money and customers save time. Handing over your house keys to someone else might seem scary, but if you choose wisely, a roommate can save you dough. Your e-mail alerts are based on criteria you select or the investments you want to watch, such as those currently making headline news. For example, Fund Manager offers real-time monitoring performance of your investments, sending you e-mail alerts based on when your investment value rises or falls above a fixed price. Retail giant Wal-Mart will send an alert by e-mail or text message when an item of interest to you goes on sale. Charles Schwab and Company offer a different type of investment alert. In the online version of the coding camp, we aimed at keeping the same type of fun generated by the activities and games in the face-to-face camp, therefore the adaptations of the games emulated the face-to-face versions and intended to keep as much as possible the physical nature of the replaced games.

Even the IRS accepts electronic files, so keep the paperless banking paperless, but don't worry about being recordless. Why, then, is the push for paperless banking still so prevalent? It's also why, unless you do something, the situation won't improve by itself. Some corporations have such poor customer service that they're known for being places where it's nearly impossible to "get a person on the phone" to help with a problem.
