Mojang's Patrick Geuder said that Minecraft's massive sandbox is close to 54 million copies across all platforms. Geuder also announced on Twitter that sales of the console (Xbox 360, PS3) versions have now surpassed those of PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 or Vita in August. The Vita version of the game is Cross-Buy compatible and is free for users who own the PS3 version. Xbox 360 and PS4 owners who have the game installed on their Xbox 360 or PS3 will now be able to download the latest-gen versions for $5.
The first version of Minecraft was released in May 2009. MINECRAFT SERVERS was two years before the official release in November. Mojang and its creator Markus "Notch" Persson have been celebrating numerous sales milestones since then, most recently noting that 15 million copies of the PC version were sold by April. The Xbox 360 version sold 12 million copies, while the Pocket Edition for iOS or Android has reached 21 million. [Image: Mojang]
