Minecraft developer Mojang has announced they will be collaborating with Telltale Games to create a new story mode for the game. Mojang promises it will be a narrative-driven game about Minecraft, but didn't expand on what exactly that would look like.
The first episode will be released some time in 2015, and will be available on Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices. That's right. Email No matter what system you play on, you will be able to play Minecraft's story mode.
Minecraft: Story Mode will be released episodically, similarly to Telltale's other games The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead. Those games also saw Telltale team up with an outside developer, Gearbox. In case you're worried a story mode might somehow take away from the gamer's imagined view of what the Minecraft world really is like don't worry. In their statement Mojang puts those fears to rest.
We're not intending on creating an "official" story for Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail. It will be a cool game.
Consider us now insanely curious about what kind of story you can tell from the perfect open sandbox of Minecraft. We can't wait to find out.
