Emmanuel Grinshpun. Restoring synagogues and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil Grinshpun's theme during the interview was the revival of synagogues. But sticking to only one subject for the interview did not work. There were a variety of topics that were discussed during the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. It was nice to talk with you. I think we haven't seen each other for five years or more. Where are you currently located?

The past nine months were divided between Miami (Miami) and Jurmala (Jurmala). While the geographical area was larger in the past however, the pandemic is having a an enormous impact on how people live. It is hard to say if this is for the better.

Diversification seems to be moving forward. If we look at the main areas, then this is development in the areas of real estate, IT technology and food production.

ALIMCOM is an expert in the field of food and real estate is much more easily understood. IT, however, is completely new information to me. There are many areas where IT technology can be used. What is the area you are most interested in?

The first and most important thing is that our IT-holding is involved in reforming tax systems in several countries. We have created or are working on a variety of products to aid in the transfer of a number of business processes related to taxation, both online and "real-time". This is referred to as "Business to Government".

What about the areas where the holding operates? Are there any ex- USSR countries?

They're still available. Also, we have agreements in Western Europe and Latin America. Our current operations are in 14 countries.

Can you describe in a brief manner what the main idea behind the product?

Our product allows for economic agents to submit tax reports online. The fiscal data administrator can see every transaction. Tax accounting as well as tax calculation can be done simultaneously. In the future, it is possible to say that mid-sized and small-sized businesses will not need accounting.

You said that you'd been tossing around between Miami and Jurmala throughout the year. The Baltics headquarters is an IT holding?

There are five hubs in the world, as well as the headquarters is located in Barcelona.

Why isn't it the Baltics? Do you have roots in the Baltics?

No. There is no. Jurmala was an accidental encounter that came about completely by chance. When Igor Krutoy invited me to the New Wave in Miami, it was the first time we were able to get there. They began visiting Miami each summer, after they had won several contests. The climate isn't the best in Miami in the summer. We rented a home for a few years, consequently, we've already purchased it.

Now I know why you stated that a synagogue was in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We're all of the same age. Born in the USSR. There was no need to discuss religion at the time. We were all Komsomol members at the time and pioneers. When was the first time you began to turn to religious belief?

In the middle of the 80s my family and I moved to the USA. It was here where I first became aware of traditions. While I'm not part of the traditional religion of Christianity I feel the need to support, to my best ability and to be a part of the life of the Jewish community in the countries I live in or in Moldova. This is the place I grew up and with which I've continued to maintain the most close ties.

It's true that I am definitely not a religious person however, I do love history very much. I was recently watching an documentary on 1492 and the way it altered Europe's fate. 1492 is the year I love most because it was the year that Columbus was the first to discover America. It was apparent in the program that the discovery of America was initiated in 1492 but not from the Medieval European point of view. Эммануил Гриншпун This was evident in the program that I watched. The departure of Jews began to the Ottoman Empire, it accepted them. Here, I was looking for details about the history of Jews as a people. Would you suggest any book?

There are many books. However, I've read all of them and would highly suggest Max Diamond, the two-volume Jewish historian. By the way, he himself comes from Finland.

Speaking of "personal" personal history .... Are you aware of the genealogy of your family? Unfortunately, I don't know anything beyond my grandmother's name and 1910. The paternal side is a step closer, but nothing much.

On the paternal line, our family was in the Floresti region for several hundred years. There are numerous monuments and evidence that prove they were prosperous in 1830. Ungheni was also home to my maternal grandparents. I am referring to dates from the 17th-18th century. Grinshpun is a surname that has German roots, which means we are pure Ashkenazi from Eastern Europe.

Let's discuss the restoration of synagogues. I have been informed that you financed the restoration of three synagogues. One is located in Chisinau, one is in Jurmala and the last?

The third largest and biggest is located in Netanya, Israel. It is a massive community center where a thousand people pray each day. It is a significant landmark in the life of religion in Israel. The second synagogue of Jurmala. The Second World War saw the destruction of the sole synagogue in Jurmala. Before I took the decision to construct a synagogue , I'd spoken with a lot of residents Jews. I then made the decision to fund its construction and invite a Rabbi to visit it. It was a successful project that brought all the Jews of Jurmala. We have actually re-created a Jewish community that is operating successfully. The synagogue now has three Torahs I donated one to the synagogue.

and - Chisinau?

Yes. Alexander Bilinkis is one of my co-workers. Alexander Weinstein is another. They aren't the only ones I have been involved with in construction or restoration. It was my duty to help in the support of synagogues throughout the countries I've lived in for a while. My contribution to Monaco, Miami, is a large community facility for Russian-speaking Jews. Its estimated value is around 12 million dollars. I continue to assist Chisinau. It will soon become the biggest synagogue within the city, and the synagogue of Rabbi Tsirelson.

Did Jurmala or Chisinau receive an Rabbi?

Yes. It is difficult to find the perfect rabbi within the community. Given the interweaving of interests, he must be a very diplomatic and non-conflict person, capable of integrating seamlessly into the lives of the community. And I am pleased to see that in both Chisinau as well as in Jurmala the rabbis were able to be so seamlessly integrated into the lives of the community.

You were elected vice president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress in 2019. What does this post you think it means to you? How can international Jewish organisations influence the global landscape?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, a strong organization in the post-Soviet area is not just an influential political organization. It has offices across Australia, Japan Hong Kong, New Zealand, New Zealand as well as Eastern Europe. I served as Vice-President of Congress back in 2010, but the year before last I was given the position of the First Vice President. I now have responsibility for the regions where I have been able to establish strong political and business ties. It's not just my opinion. Concerning the pandemic however I'd prefer to highlight the way a society or a nation can be when they are prepared for any challenge and are able and willing to work together.

You are referring to the vaccination campaign in Israel.

Exactly. Israel is the first country in the world that provides 100% vaccination of adults. I believe that this is an example worthy of consideration and is a positive the kind of experience that other countries need to be aware of.
