Emmanuel Grinshpun. Restoring synagogues and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil grinshpun was interviewed on the synagogues that were restored. The conversation was narrowly concentrated. There were numerous other topics that were discussed during the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. It was an honor to have you meet. We've not seen each others for five or more years. What is your current location?

The past nine months were divided between Miami (Miami) and Jurmala (Jurmala). Although the region was more diverse, the consequences of the epidemic have had a huge impact on lifestyle. And I'm not saying that this is just to the negative.

You've always had a variety of businesses. How about today?

Diversification will not go away. If we think of the major areas of development, this is development in real estate, IT technologies as well as food production.

First and foremost, our IT-holding company is involved in reforming tax systems in a number of countries. We have designed and are currently working on products that allow you to transfer various operations that are related to taxation online. This is known as B2G (Business to Government).

What about the territories where the holding is operating? The former countries from the USSR?

There are other contracts, but we have more contracts with Western and Eastern Europe and in Latin America. We currently have operations in 14 countries.

Our product permits economic companies to report online to the tax authorities. Fiscal data operator monitors every transaction. Tax accounting and tax calculation can be simultaneously handled. It's a fascinating topic. The future is right around the corner. Do you wish to work in Moldova or have you thought about it? Moldova is your home, so you might consider working in the country.

We're willing to showcase our product in Moldova. This will be a huge benefit for the Moldovan economy and , in any event, an irreversible transition. When there is a sense of clarity among the authorities and it is certain who is the one making the decisions We will resume the negotiations regarding our product.

You mentioned that you were tossing between Miami (and Jurmala) all the time. Where is the headquarters of an IT holding in the Baltics?

No. There is no. Jurmala was introduced to our lives by chance and quite prosaically. We were invited to the New Wave by Igor Krutoy, and that was our first encounter with Jurmala. They started making it a regular summer trip after a few events. Эммануил Гриншпун However, the weather in Miami is not very pleasant during the summer. We rented a house over a period of time and we already own it.

Now I know the reason you mentioned that one synagogue was in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We're almost the same age. Born in the USSR. The Soviet Union was not a space to discuss religious beliefs. We were all pioneers as well as Komsomol participants. What was the moment when religion became your choice?

My family and I relocated into America around the middle of the 80s. I was introduced to the customs and rituals there. Even though I don't adhere to orthodoxy, I feel a deep need to support the faith-based life of Jewish communities that I have in my home country or Moldova. Эммануил Гриншпун I was born in Moldova and have maintained close ties with the Jewish communities in Moldova.

While I'm not a religious person I am a lover of history. Recently I was watching a documentary about the events of 1492, which changed the course of European history. 1492 is my favorite year Columbus discovered America. It was apparent on the program that the discovery of America was done in 1492, but not from Medieval Europe's viewpoint. This was apparent in the show I was watching. When the mass exodus of Jews to the Ottoman Empire began, which accepted them. I am interested in finding out more about the history and culture of the Jews. Do you recommend any books?

There are numerous books available there, but I have personally read all of them and highly recommend Max Diamond's two volumes of Jewish history. He is Finnish himself.

.... Do you or your relatives have any "personal" or historical backstory? Unfortunately, I'm only as far as my grandmother and 1910. Paternal relatives are a step closer, but nothing much.

Our family was a resident of Floresti for many hundred years from the paternal side. There is evidence in the form of documents and monuments which show that in 1830 they were very prosperous with a furniture factory, several shops, land plots. Ungheni was the home of my maternal grandparents. These dates fall in the region between the 17th-18th centuries. Grinshpun has the German surname, and we are Ashkenazis from Eastern Europe.

The question now is about the restoration of synagogues. I heard that you funded the reconstruction of three synagogues. One is located in Chisinau One is in Jurmala The third is?

The third largest is located in Netanya, Israel. It is a huge community center, where 1000 people a day pray. It is a significant building for the religious life in Israel. The second synagogue of Jurmala. The Second World War ended the existence of the town's sole synagogue. Before I made the decision to build an orthodox church in Jurmala I had talked to Jurmala's local Jews. It turned out to be an extremely successful venture which brought together the Jews from Jurmala. Actually it was the time when the Jewish community was re-created and now is in good standing. Three Torahs are currently at the synagogue. I gave one Torah to the synagogue.

Yes. Эммануил Гриншпун Here I have already worked with two of my friends with two of them - Alexander Bilinkis and Alexander Weinstein. Эммануил Гриншпун These synagogues aren't the only ones in my involvement in the field of restoration or construction. I felt it was my responsibility to contribute to any country I've visited for a long period to assist synagogues. My contribution to Monaco is towards the construction of a huge community center in Miami for Russian-speaking Jews that is estimated to be 12 million dollars. Chisinau will remain my support - the synagogue Rabbi Tsirelson is currently the largest in the city.

Have you invited a Rabbi to Chisinau in addition to Jurmala?

Yes. Yes. Due to the interconnectedness of his interests, he must be non-conflict and diplomatic, able to naturally enter the community. I am very happy to see that in both Chisinau and in Jurmala, the rabbis were able to integrate so harmoniously into the life of the community.

In 2019, you were appointed vice-president at the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. What does this position have to do with you? How can international Jewish organizations impact the world?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, a powerful organization in the post-Soviet area, is not only a political force. There are offices for it in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and New Zealand. In 2010 I was Vice-President of Congress. In the year prior I was elected the First Vice President. I now have responsibility for the area where I have strong business and political ties. The three "countries" include Uzbekistan Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Global trends indicate that the barometer of attitudes towards Jews is either in the same place as it was before or has dipped, which is very disappointing. "Down" also refers to countries such a France, Germany or France that are developed. These countries are no longer safe to Jews. They are important, dangerous process for us all.

What has the pandemic changed these processes and how has it affected these?

It is not what I am claiming to believe. To be more precise I'd rather emphasize the potential of a country or a society in the event that they are ready to take on any challenge and act efficiently and together with respect to the pandemic.

You are referring to the vaccination program in Israel.

Exactly. Israel is the only country that offers 100% vaccination of the adult population. I consider this to be a a worthy example and an experience that other countries must be aware of.
