Emmanuel Grinshpun. The restoration of synagogues and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil Grinshpun spoke about the subject of restoration of synagogues in their interview. The conversation was too narrowly focused. So, there were more questions in the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. It was an honor to get to know you. I'm sure we haven't spoken to eachother in at least five years. Where are you currently based?

The nine months that been between Miami and Jurmala were divided. In the past, the geographical area was wider, but the pandemic has significantly affected the way of life. I can't say for certain that this is in the best way.

You've always been in the business of different kinds of businesses. You do now?

Diversification isn't changing. The major areas of growth are in the fields of IT technologies and real estate as well as food production.

ALIMCOM understands the food industry and real estate is more easily comprehended. IT is totally new to me. There are a million potential areas for applying IT technology. What area of IT technology is your passion?

Our IT-holding is focused on the reform of tax systems across a variety of countries. We have developed and continue to design tools that aid in the transfer of numerous business processes connected to online taxation. This is known as B2G ("Business to Government").

What about the area in which the holding is located? Former countries from the USSR?

We were all Komsomol participants and pioneers back then. What was the first time you came in contact with religion?

My family and me moved to America in the mid-80s. Эммануил Гриншпун Эммануил Гриншпун I learned about customs and rituals there. Even now, I'm far from the traditional religion. I am just feeling an inner need to support as much as my ability, the religious life of the Jewish community in the countries in which I live , or in Moldova my home country, which is where I came from and with whom I have the closest bonds.

It's true that I is not a religious person however, I do love history very much. I just watched a program about 1492's events that changed the course of Europe's destiny. For me, 1492 is the year Columbus was the first to discover America. However, it was stated clearly in the programme that 1492 was the year Columbus discovered America. The Jews were accepted by the Ottoman Empire when the mass exodus of Jews to the Ottoman Empire. Эммануил Гриншпун I was looking for more information on the history of Jews. Would you recommend a good book for me to study?

There are a lot of books available. I've read the majority of them. I recommend Max Diamond, a two-volume Jewish historian. He's also from Finland.

.... Do we know our family tree? Unfortunately, I am no further than my grandmother and 1910. On the paternal side, a step higher, but nothing more.

Our family was a Floresti family for hundreds of years, based on the paternal lineage. Their wealth was apparent through a furniture factory, numerous stores and land plots. Monuments and documentation support this claim. And my maternal ancestors lived in Ungheni. These dates are from the the 17th-18th centuries. Grinshpun is an surname that has German roots. This is why we are Ashkenazis originating from Eastern Europe.

This is the subject regarding the restoration of synagogues. I was told that you financed the restoration of three synagogues. One is located in Chisinau, one is in Jurmala, and the third?

The third largest and biggest is located in Netanya, Israel. It is a massive community center where a thousand people pray a day. It is an important location in the life of religion of Israel. Second synagogue in Jurmala. The Second World War ended the existence of the town's sole synagogue. Before constructing a synagogue I spoke with local Jews. Based on this, I decided to fund the construction and also invite a rabbi to the site. It was a hugely successful project, which united the Jews in Jurmala. We actually re-created the Jewish Community, and it is now functioning successfully. The synagogue is now home to three Torahs. One of these Torahs was given to me.

and Chisinau

Yes. Here I have already worked with two of my friends - Alexander Bilinkis and Alexander Weinstein. But these synagogues aren't the only ones I've been involved with in their reconstruction or restoration. It was my obligation to help in the support of synagogues in all countries I have lived for some time. The synagogue I support, Monaco, Miami, is an enormous community facility that is available to Russian-speaking Jews. The estimated amount is 12 million USD. I do not stop helping Chisinau either - now it will be the largest synagogue in the city. It is that of Rabbi Tsirelson.

Have you invited a Rabbi to Chisinau along with Jurmala?

Yes. It is difficult to locate the right rabbi in the community. Due to the intertwining of different concerns, he should be a highly peaceful and non-conflict-prone person, capable of integrating seamlessly into the life of the community. It's a good to see that both Jurmala and Chisinau rabbis were able integrate so harmoniously in the community.

In 2019, you were appointed vice-president for the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. What does this post signify to you? how do international Jewish organizations influence global trends?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EJC) is a strong political organization in post-Soviet Russian. It's also not the only one. There are offices for it in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and New Zealand. In 2010 I was Vice President of Congress. The year before, I was elected First Vice President. I am now responsible for the area where I have strong political and business connections. Эммануил Гриншпун These "countries" are Uzbekistan Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Regarding the trends across the world the barometer of attitudes towards Jews either remains at the same level, or, which is very regrettable, has swung down. The word "down" refers to nations like France, Germany, France as well as the United States. They're not safe anymore for Jews. These are very alarming and dangerous procedures.
