MIAMI (CBSMiami) Although the conflict in Ukraine might seem distant, South Floridians continue to step up to support those seeking refuge.

Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital posted the following "Just last night, 1100 patients arrived."
She said that more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees seek refuge in a war-ravaged nation. A large portion of them are in Moldova, which is bordering Ukraine.

The majority of humanitarian efforts are being carried out right here in South Florida, Sunny Isles.

Grinshpun: "When our brothers, sisters and friends from Ukraine were coming to visit us, we didn't feel the reason to think about it. Instead, we simply started doing it."
Jaquays reflect the same sentiments.
"Who was there during the Holocaust and when the Nazis assumed power? What percentage of people have gone blind claiming it's not them and that they're not Jewish, it isn't my community and it's not Europe?
