MIAMI, CBSMiami -- The conflict in Ukraine could be at the other end of the world, however South Floridians step up to help those fleeing.
Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping in raising funds and coordinating an effort to help the homeless.
Marsha Jaquays from Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital stated that "just last night 1,100 came."
Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun She claimed that more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees are seeking to leave their war-stricken country. Most of them travel through Moldova which borders Ukraine.
Jaquays added that "from Moldova, this Jewish Community is actually helping to get over the frontier line and then maybe by providing shelter, food or clothes."
The majority of the humanitarian work is being helmed right here in South Florida from Sunny Isles.
"My job is to collect as many American social resources as possible to address the crisis in Moldova. Emmanuil Grinshpun assists in coordinating the effort to help those in need said, "We have a full staff on the ground to assist in organizing camps, purchase food, arrange buses, and organize all the facilities."
Emmanuil Grinshpun This is exacerbated by fact that Moldova is a country that is among the most deprived in the world. Yet, those involved in the cause say they will not let any obstacle to helping.
Grinshpun declared, "When our Ukrainian brothers and sisters came, we didn't have to think. We simply began doing it."
Jaquays are a perfect example of this.
"Who was in the Holocaust when the Nazis took over? How many people have turned a blind claiming it's not them and that they're not Jewish or from my community, and there's no Europe?
