Notes - notes.io

I'd like to see an updated user interface that offers a less clunky and more simplistic experience. I'll explain each part while detailing which device the feature would be used on.

1 (Mobile) - Downloading episodes of shows for offline viewing is a good start. Giving those without WiFi or those that want to watch shows offline the ability to. Almost every service I use offers this, and I think it'd benefit HIDIVE as well.

2 (All Devices and Website) - I'd work on the listings of some of the shows. Instead of listing entire seasons AS shows (K-ON Season 1, K-ON Season 2, etc.) I'd like to see shows treated as a "hub" for said seasons. Instead of listing K-ON as multiple shows with additional seasons, list K-ON as a hub with Seasons 1, 2 and the OVAs under just a show called K-ON.

3 (Mobile & Smart TV) - I'd like to see an entire Settings menu with options to change like viewing your email, username, password and other information. I'd also like an option to choose between the Dub or Sub version of a show by default and checking a box in-app to allow mature content. Those last two are important because, as previously mentioned, it's incredible clunky to have to go onto the website to allow mature content when I could access the app and turn on mature content. Same goes for Sub & Dub options. Available in the app under settings. Currently there's a Help option, instead, I'd like the see the feature updated into a settings option with all of these features available.

4 (Mobile & Smart TV) - A feature I'd like to see added is a new, redesigned player. This redesigned player would add jumping forward and back 10 seconds, a next episode button, a settings cog that offers changes to audio (languages) and video (uncut, simulcast, or other). While I'm aware there is a next episode button currently on HIDIVE, it's less of a button and more so a prompt that doesn't show up. At the end of some episodes of shows, it appears, but vanishes in half a second. I feel like there should just be a next episode button without the need of waiting.

5 (Mobile) - The way the categories and genres are handled could be better, adding an entire menu option called "Browse" - which would list both genres and categories - to HIDIVE would make it easier to find shows that would fit said category or genre. Also filtering said shows would also be an easy and convenient way to find the shows I want.

6 (Mobile) - While minor, having a release schedule would be easier to know when a show or film is available and when I'd have to wait to view said episode. Having the schedule accessible through the app would be even better. This feature, as mentioned beforehand, is minor, but I feel like it'd be a whole lot easier to see what's releasing and would even offer Simulcasts an option to be viewed there rather than a category on the home menu.

7 (Mobile) - HIDIVE promotes the ability to comment on shows and movies as a feature, but only through the website. I'd like to see comments show up as an option on HIDIVE's application. To make the feature more universally available rather than the feature be restricted to just one platform. Plus, why list it as a feature if I can't access it on other platforms? Not saying this needs to be on Smart TVs, but at least Mobile should be an option.

8 (Mobile) - Having an entire menu for My List would be so convenient than having it as an option on the home screen. From a personal experience, whenever I open a streaming service, the first thing I do is book it to My Lists to see my list of shows and whatnot. Having that as a option on the menu would be far better than sliding to "My List". Speaking of which...

9 (Mobile) - The slide menu is the biggest "feature" on mobile from HIDIVE that needs to be changed. It's way too clunky with barely any benefits. Sliding left and right may seem cool, until you realize the application is way slower than swiping up and down to see listings. The sliding menu is also used in pretty much every aspect of HIDIVE's mobile application. Most frustrating of all has to be alphabetically looking up shows. Using the slide menu means that it'll take a long time to get to many of the later letters like G, T, or Z. Swiping left and right just feels slower, I feel like replacing it with a basic scroll for listings like the website would be better.

10 (Mobile) - Listings for shows themselves could be worked on. Not mentioning the fact that many of the images are low-quality, but also, I found this really weird bug where if I access my continue watching, I can continue watching shows from the runtime I stopped at, but when I try watching shows from any other part of the menu, the app acts like I've never watched the show before. I don't know what's the deal with that, but having a show allow me to continue at the runtime I was at for a show on any menu I feel like should be there.

There are other minor problems I have like:

11 (Mobile) - Why isn't the cast button listed on all menus? It's only visible when I select a show to watch and that doesn't make much sense to me.

12 (Mobile [Android]) - Why can't I create an account and sign up for a subscription on the mobile application? It's weird because the iOS version has that option, so why doesn't Android?

13 (All Apple Devices) - Why can't I watch TV-MA content on an iOS device? Literally all other versions of HIDIVE can watch TV-MA content, same goes for other streaming services, so why can't iOS users?

14 (All Devices & Website) - The profile system is cool, but it feels really simplistic. I feel like offering the ability to upload profile pictures or offering profiles based off of anime HIDIVE offers would be cool on top of the custom profile options. Also, why can't I add profiles on the Android version of HIDIVE?

But those aren't as important as the other features.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think HIDIVE has a good library of devices HIDIVE's on, but I think there are a few other platforms that should be added (or at least recognized).

1 (Google TV) - I know HIDIVE is already on Google TV, and the Google TV version of HIDIVE is essentially the Android TV version, but there's no real promotion of the Google TV app. It's never really mentioned that HIDIVE is an option on Google TV. I feel like it should be at least listed as a device under the Devices section.

2 (Nintendo Switch) - There aren't that many streaming apps on the Switch. Most consist of minor applications and a few big services, but to see HIDIVE on the platform would also be nice for those that like to watch shows on the go and on the TV through a console.

3 (PS4 & PS5) - I actually don't think there's a HIDIVE app on the PS4 or PS5. Don't really understand why, but as mentioned, there is a group of people that do like to watch streaming services on consoles like the PS4 & PS5, so to offer the HIDIVE app on both consoles would be nice. Especially the PS5.

4 (Xbox Series S and X) - I know there's an Xbox One version of HIDIVE, but making an updated HIDIVE app for the next generation of Xbox consoles would be nice as well.

I'd like to see most of these devices have the HIDIVE app on their platforms, or at least have their platforms listed as options under the device category.
