Emmanuel Grinshpun. Restoring synagogues and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
The subject of the conversation with Emmanuil Grinshpun concerns the restoration of synagogues. It was, however, impossible to stay focused on just one issue. Thus, there were a variety of topics in the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. We're happy to chat with you. I don't think we've met for over five years. Where are your current abodes?

The last nine months have seen Miami and Jurmala divide the difference. Although the geographic area was larger in the past, the pandemic has had a profound impact on the way people live. This isn't saying it is only for the worse.

Diversification isn't going out of fashion. If we look at the most important areas, then it is the development of real estate, IT technologies as well as food production.

Эммануил Гриншпун Food industry is, obviously, ALIMCOM, real estate is also understandable, but IT is a completely new concept for me. There are many areas that IT technology could be used in. What are you most interested in?

Our IT-holding focus is on reforming tax systems of a number countries. We've developed and are developing a range of products that help to transfer various tax-related processes online and in "real time". This is known as the B2G (Business to Government) acronym.

What are the locations in which the holding is operating? Ancestors of the USSR

They are also in existence, however we have more contracts with Western as well as Eastern Europe and in Latin America. The current number of contracts we have is 14 countries.

What's the core of your product?

Our product lets economic agents report to the tax authorities online, and the fiscal data manager is able to see each transaction. Tax accounting and tax calculation can be simultaneously handled. In the future small and medium-sized enterprises will no longer need accounting. All that's required is an analytical task. It's possible to pay taxes and submit reports in a single click.

This is an interesting subject. Have you ever thought about working in Moldova? Moldova is the country you call home in the end.

We are prepared to present our product to Moldova. It is our belief that the Moldovan economy will benefit from this automated process. In any case this is an irreversible process. Once there is clarity between the authorities and it is clear who makes the final decisions and who is in charge, we will begin the negotiations regarding our product.

Эммануил Гриншпун You said that your year was spent moving from Jurmala to Miami. The Baltics are home to the headquarters of an IT company.

No, there are five hubs around the world, and our main office in Barcelona.

Why then is it that you're from the Baltics? Are you a native of the Baltics?

No. No. Jurmala came into our lives by chance but not professionally. It was Igor Krutoy who invited us to New Wave for the first time. After a series of competitions, they began to come there each summer. In Miami the weather in summer isn't the best. We rented a home for several years, and so we've bought it.

Now I know why you said that one synagogue was in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We're almost the same age. Born in the USSR. All of us were Komsomol members and pioneers back then. When did you turn to religion?

In the mid-80s my family and me moved to the USA in the mid-80s, and we can say that it was during this time that I started to follow the customs and practices of my culture. Even now, I'm not a part of the orthodox religion, I am just feeling an inner need to help as much as my ability the life of religion of the Jewish community in the nations where I reside or in Moldova, where I come from and with whom I maintain the strongest connections.

Although I'm not religious, I am still a lover of the past. https://www.kinopoisk.ru/name/238763/relations/ Recently, I was intrigued by a program that covered the events that occurred in 1492. They changed the course of Europe and the entire world. 1492 is my favorite year Columbus was the first to discover America. It was apparent on the program that the discovery of America was made in 1492, but not from Medieval Europe's perspective. This was clear in the show that I watched. When the mass exodus of Jews to the Ottoman Empire began, which was acquiescing to the Jewish people. I am interested in finding out more about the culture and history of the Jews. Would you recommend any of the books?

There are many books available. I've read a lot of them, and I recommend Max Diamond, a two-volume Jewish historian. He is Finnish himself.

.... Do your family members have an "personal" or historical backstory? Unfortunately, my family tree is only one step further than 1910 and my maternal grandmother. Paternal side: One step beyond, but not enough.

Our paternal line lived in Floresti for more than 100 years. Documentary evidence and monuments show that they were already wealthy in 1830. They owned a furniture factory along with numerous shops, as well as land plots. My maternal ancestors were also in Ungheni. I'm talking about dates from the region of the 17th-18th century. Grinshpun is a German surname, which means we're Ashkenazis from Eastern Europe.

Let's discuss the restoration of the synagogues. I was informed by you that three synagogues were being restored. One is situated in Chisinau. Jurmala has the third. Which one?

The third and the most important, is located in Netanya (Israel). It is a large community center where over 1000 people pray each day. It is an important object in the religious life of Israel. The second Synagogue in Jurmala. The Second World War ended the existence of the only synagogue in Jurmala. Before I took the decision to build a synagogue , I'd spoken with a lot of local Jews. I decided to build it and invite Rabbis to visit the synagogue. The synagogue was an enormous success and brought together all the Jews from Jurmala. The project actually restored the Jewish community, and it's operating very well. The synagogue now owns three Torahs. One of the Torahs was given to me.

Эммануил Гриншпун The three synagogues I mentioned were not the only ones I participated in restoration and building. I felt it was my responsibility to contribute to any country I've visited for a long time to support synagogues. My contribution is currently in Monaco in which a massive community center for Russian-speaking Jews is being built. It is estimated that it will cost about 12 million dollars. I will continue to help Chisinau as well. In the near future, it will be the largest synagogue in the city. It is that of Rabbi Tsirelson.

Did you invite Rabbis to Chisinau along with Jurmala?

Yes. Yes. Given the interweaving of interests, he must be a highly calm and peaceful person who is able to seamlessly integrate into the lives of the community. I'm delighted to announce that both in Chisinau as well as in Jurmala the Rabbis were able to integrate into the community.

You were named the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress' first vice-president in 2019. What does this means to your? And how do international Jewish organizations impact global trends worldwide?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress is an influential political organization in post-Soviet countries, however, it goes beyond that. It has offices across Eastern Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. I served as Vice-President of Congress back in 2010, however, the year before I was offered the post of the First Vice President. The post is now my responsibility for the region in which I have strong political and economic connections. These countries are Uzbekistan Tajikistan Kyrgyzstan. If you look at developments across the globe and the barometer of attitudes toward Jews is either unchanged or decreased and is extremely unfortunate. Also, the word "down" refers to countries such as France, Germany, France as well as the United States. These are not safe for Jews. These are serious and alarming methods for all.

Have these processes been affected by the virus?

This isn't my opinion. In connection to the pandemic I'd like to emphasize how a country or society can be when they're ready for any challenge and are willing and able to work in tandem.

What do you mean by HTML0? to?

Exactly. Israel is the only country in the world to provide all-inclusive vaccination for its adult population. I think this is a valuable example and experience that other countries could take note of.
