Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI(CBSMiami), Ukraine war may be on opposite side of the planet, but South Floridians can assist those seeking refuge.

Many members of the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are actively raising money and helping to coordinate a total humanitarian effort.

Marsha Jaquays from Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital shared the followinginformation "Just last night, 1,100 people were admitted."

She added that over two million Ukrainian refugees are seeking to escape their war-torn country. A large portion of them travel through the small country of Moldova, which borders Ukraine.

"From Moldova, this Jewish community actually assists them in getting across the border and maybe even giving them food, shelter, and even clothes," added Jaquays.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Most of the humanitarian efforts are being carried out right here in South Florida, Sunny Isles.

Emmanuil Grinshpun "My job is to coordinate all resources available from American society in order to assist this crisis in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun We have a whole team of volunteers in Moldova working hard to create camps, buy food, purchasing all the necessary amenities, and coordinating buses," said Emmanuil Grinshpun who has been helping to coordinate the aid effort.

What makes this situation more dire is that Moldova is believed to be one of the poorest communities around the globe. Yet, those involved in the cause say they will not let anything stop them from helping.

Grinshpun: "When our brothers and sisters and our friends from Ukraine were arriving, we didn't have any need to consider. Instead we just started doing it."

Sentiments are echoed by Jaquays.
