Emmanuel Grinshpun. The restoration of synagogues as well as the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil grinshpun spoke about the preservation and restoration of synagogues. However, it wasn't possible to concentrate on only one issue. There were a variety of topics that were discussed in the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. I am glad to have an exchange with you. I'm sure we haven't spoken to each other for more than five years. What part of the globe is it that you are currently in?

Diversification won't stop. The main areas are development in the fields of IT technologies and real estate as well as food production.

The food industry is obviously, ALIMCOM, real estate is also a common topic, however IT is completely new information for me. There are many areas that IT technology can be used in. What areas of IT technology are you interested in?

Our IT-holding department is first and foremost occupied with reforming tax systems across several nations. We are ready to launch our product to Moldova. The Moldovan economy will benefit from this automation. In any event this is unstoppable. Once there is a consensus and clarity with the authorities about who will make the final decision, we'll resume the negotiations over our product.

You said that your year has been spent hopping between Jurmala to Miami. What is the location of the headquarters of an IT holding in Baltics?

No, we have five hubs all over the globe and a headquarters in Barcelona.

What is the reason for this? Baltics! Do you have roots in the Baltics?

No. The history of my family through generations is entwined only with Moldova or If we stick to historical names, then Bessarabia. Jurmala was a chance encounter that came about completely by chance. It was Igor Krutoy who invited us to New Wave for the first time. After winning many contests the group began going there each summer. Miami's summer climate isn't the most relaxing. Now I know why I was told that one of the synagogues that was restored thanks to your contributions is located in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We are almost the exact same age. Born in the USSR. No need to talk about religion back then. We were all Komsomol members at the time and pioneers. When did you first turn to the religion of your choice?

In the late 80s, my family and I moved to the USA and it is possible to say that it was during this time that I began to observe the customs and practices of my culture. But even now I'm far from the strict orthodox faith, I just feel an inner need to help as much as my abilities the spiritual life of the Jewish community in the countries in which I live , or in Moldova my home country, which is where I came from and to which I continue to have the strongest bonds.

Although I'm not a religious person I love history tremendously. I just watched a program on 1492 events which changed the fate of Europe. 1492 is when Columbus first discovered America. However, it was clear in the show I was watching from the viewpoint of Medieval Europe, the discovery of America in 1492 wasn't so significant as the removal of the Jews from Spain by the Spanish monarchs. When the departure of Jews began to the Ottoman Empire, it accepted the Jews. I was searching for more details about the historical background of Jews. Would you recommend a good book that I could study?

There are a lot of books there, but I have personally read all of them and would recommend Max Diamond's double-volume Jewish history. Max Diamond is from Finland and is, in fact, from Finland.

Concerning "personal" history .... Are you aware of the genealogy of your family? Unfortunately I'm only as old as my grandmother and 1910. The paternal side is one step closer, however not much.

Our family lived in Floresti for hundreds of years, according to our paternal lineage. Their wealth was apparent through an furniture factory, numerous stores and land parcels. Monuments and documentation support this claim. My maternal ancestors also lived in Ungheni. These dates fall in the region of the 17th and 18th centuries. Grinshpun is a surname derived from German roots. We are Ashkenazis pure and straight and straight from Eastern Europe.

This is the subject of the restoration of synagogues. Эммануил Гриншпун I was told that you financed the reconstruction of three synagogues. One is located in Chisinau; one is in Jurmala and the third one is in?

The third largest and biggest is located in Netanya, Israel. It is a huge community center where 1,000 people pray a day. Эммануил Гриншпун It is an important landmark in Israel's religious history. The second synagogue in Jurmala. It was the time when the Second World War began and the Jurmala synagogue was among the last one to be destroyed. Before I took the decision to construct a synagogue , I'd spoken with many local Jews. I decided to build it and invite Rabbis to visit it. It turned out to be an extremely successful venture which brought together the Jews of Jurmala. In fact, we have recreated a Jewish community which is operating successfully. The synagogue is now home to three Torahs. Эммануил Гриншпун I gave one of them to it.

And - Chisinau?

Yes. Alexander Bilinkis and Alexander Weinstein have been my partners. However, these synagogues do not represent the only ones where I was involved in the renovation or construction. It was my obligation to contribute to the support of synagogues in all countries I have lived for some time. My contribution is currently in Monaco, where a large community centre for Russian-speaking Jews is being built. It is estimated to cost approximately 12 million dollars. Chisinau will remain my main focus - the synagogue of Rabbi Tsirelson is now one of the biggest in the city.

In along with Jurmala, did you also invite a rabbi to Chisinau?

Yes. It is difficult to locate the right rabbi in the community. Due to the many stakes involved, the rabbi must be non-conflictual and diplomatic capable of integrating organically into the lives of the community. It was an honor to see how the rabbis of both Chisinau and Jurmala were able to blend so seamlessly into the community's life.

In 2019, you were the first vice-president for the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. What does this role have to do with you? How will international Jewish organizations impact the world?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress has been a prominent political organization in post-Soviet Europe, but it's not the only one. It has offices in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and New Zealand. In 2010, I served as Vice President of Congress. However, in the previous year I was named First Vice president. This time, I'm responsible for the region in which I have had historically strong connections to both politics and business - these are the "countries", Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan. If you look at global trends, the barometer on attitudes towards Jews remains the same or declined in a very negative way, which is incredibly unfortunate. Additionally, the term "down" is a reference to nations like France, Germany, France and the United States. They're no longer secure for Jews. These are extremely serious and disturbing events that affect everyone of us.

Are these processes affected by the virus?

This isn't just my opinion. Regarding the pandemic, however, I'd rather emphasize how a country or society could be when they're ready for any challenge and are able and willing to work in tandem.

Could this be the vaccine campaign to Israel?

Exactly. Israel is the only country in the world to provide 100% vaccination to its adult population. This is an example that I think other countries should consider.
