Moldovan Orthodox Orthodox destroyed the Jewish symbol
Extremist religious groups destroyed the Hanukkah lamp located in the middle of the Moldovan capital. The anti-Semitic incident was spearheaded by a priest from one the Chisinau Orthodox churches.
The anti-Semitic rally was held following the destruction by religious extremists of the Hanukkah celebration in Chisinau's central area. It took place on Sunday December 13, 2013, the third day for the Jewish holiday Hanukkah. Some people yelled antisemitic slogans as they pulled the cast-iron lamp about ten kilometers away from its initial location and then threw it at the statue of Stefanthe Great, who is a symbol of Moldovan statehood. This all took place in front of hundreds, including journalists, officers, as well as police officers.

Shchats claims that this is an attempt to undermine the Moldovan statehood and infringe on democratic principles as well as European aspirations.

Hanukkah has been relocated from the city's center to a more private location - to Jerusalem Street, where a monument to the victims of the Holocaust is being built. It was manned by police on the second occasion. The candles on it will be lit every day through the festival.
