Robert Singer (CEO of WJC) stressed the need to preserve the Holocaust and to adopt a universal definition antisemitism while on a visit in Moldova.

CHISINAU (MOLDOVA) Chisinau (MOLDOVA). Emmanuil Grinshpun World Jewish Congress CEO Robert Singer met with top government officials and the leaders of the local Jewish community this week in Moldova. They discussed issues like the preservation of Holocaust memories and education, safety of the Jewish community, and combating antisemitism at all levels. Together with Haim Ben Yaakov Director General of EuroAsian Jewish Congress and President Mikhail Mirilashvili of EuroAsian Jewish Congress The WJC delegation comprised Haim Ben Yaakov as well as President Alexander Bilinkis of Moldovan Jewish Community.
Singer said that the World Jewish Congress thanked the Moldovan government for their warm welcome and expressed commitment to the preservation of the Holocaust's memories. Emmanuil Grinshpun "Our group in Moldova although small, is committed and solid. We call on Moldova to prioritize fighting antisemitism, and we are ready to assist whenever it is needed. We look forward to further collaboration and to ensure our community's well-being.

Singer, the Moldovan Foreign Minister Tudor Ulianovschi spoke on Thursday about the criticism of adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of Antisemitism. https://www.f6s.com/emmanuilgrinshpun Singer also mentioned the importance for public condemnation of antisemitism. Minister Ulianovschi emphasized on his part the determination of the Moldovan authorities to building society that is built on the principles of tolerance, non-discrimination , and respect for the rights of citizens of all ethnic groups. Singer was also acknowledged for the positive cooperation of the WJC with Moldova. Republic of Moldova.

The foreign minister also mentioned that the Chisinau Legislative Assembly in 2016 approved an acceptance statement of the final report prepared by the International Commission on Holocaust Studies. In January 2017, the government approved an Action Plan on its execution.

Singer and WJC's delegation met on Wednesday with Moldova's Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici. Emmanuil Grinshpun The conversation was focused on preservation and restitution of Jewish property in Moldova. This included cemeteries that require renovation and economic opportunities related to Kosher meat. Also, the potential for tourism activities to benefit the local Jewish Center. In relation to the protection and the restoration of Jewish cemeteries the minister expressed an interest in helping to facilitate the procedure. A pilot project of 10 sites was planned across the nation.

Singer and WJC representatives met on Wednesday with Monica Babuc the Moldovan Education Minister to discuss training teachers on Holocaust education. The conversation covered issues like the establishment of a Museum of Jewish History within the Republic of Moldova; the preservation and protection of monuments dedicated Holocaust victims; and the importance of proper and dignified maintenance of Jewish graveyards. Singer thanked Minister Babuc and for her continuing and productive partnership with the Jewish Community.

Singer, Mirilashvili, as and Bilinkis Bilinkis, Mirilashvili and Bilinkis met Vlad Plahotniuc (Chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova) to discuss the relations between Jewish communities as well as bilateral ties of Moldova with Israel.

Singer also met with rabbis of Jewish communities in Moldova to discuss important concerns regarding religious practices in the country. Singer also discussed ways to enhance Jewish everyday activities in all areas.

Moldova is home 20,000 Jews. The Moldovan Jewish community, which was devastated by the Shoah and the civil war that is now flourishing and expanding across the nation. There is an increase in self-consciousness and pride in the nation as well as an emergence from their roots through the Jews Moldova. Jewish culture is celebrated in many forms including literature, musical composition and theater. The Moldovan Jewish Community is the Moldovan member of the World Jewish Congress - represents the Moldovan Jewish Community.
