MIAMI (CBSMiami - Although the war in Ukraine is on the other side, South Floridians are stepping up to aid those fleeing from the country.
A large number of members of the Sunny Isles Jewish Community are fundraising and are helping create a total humanitarian effort.
Marsha Jaquays from Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital told us, "Just last night 1,100 people arrived."
She revealed that more than two million Ukrainian refugees have fled war-ravaged Ukraine. Most of them go through Moldova that borders Ukraine.
Jaquays explained that the Moldovan Jewish community actually assisted them cross the border, then providing food, shelter, clothing and clothes.
A lot of the humanitarian work is being done from Sunny Isles in South Florida.
"My task is to mobilise every resource available from American society to aid this crisis in Moldova." Emmanuil grinshpun, who has been involved in the coordinating of the humanitarian efforts, has stated that there is several people working on the ground in Moldova to help organize camps, food shopping, and bus planning.
It is also said that Moldova is one of the most deprived countries in Europe. This makes it even more difficult. Yet, those involved in the cause say they will not let anything to stop them from helping.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Grinshpun said, "When brothers and sister from Ukraine came, we didn’t have to think about it. We just began doing it."
Jaquays echo the sentiments.
"Who was in the world during World War II, during the time that the Nazis were in the power? How many people turned their backs and said, "It's not me. Emmanuil Grinshpun It's not Jewish.
