MIAMI (CBSMiami - Despite the fact that the war in Ukraine is on the opposite side, South Floridians are stepping up to aid those fleeing from the country.
Many members of the Sunny Isles Jewish Community are raising funds and helping to organize a complete humanitarian effort.
"Just last night, 1,100 people arrived," said Marsha Jaquays from Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital.
She explained that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are fleeing war-torn nations. A lot of these refugees travel into Moldova that borders Ukraine.
Jaquays said, "From Moldova, the Jewish community helps them get across the border and provides shelter, food, clothes, and other needs."
Many of the humanitarian efforts are being led by Sunny Isles, South Florida.
Emmanuil Grinshpun "My duty is to gather all resources available in America in order to ease the problem in Moldova." We have a team of people who are on the ground in Moldova trying their best to set up camps, purchasing food, buying all necessary amenities, and coordinating buses," Emmanuil Grinshpun who has been helping to coordinate the aid effort.
There is also a claim that Moldova is one of the most deprived countries within Europe. This makes it more difficult. Those who are part in this cause insist that they will not let anything stop them from helping.

Jaquays are a perfect example of this.
