Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI CBSMiami -- The war in Ukraine could be at the other side of the globe however South Floridians step up to aid those who are fleeing.

Many members of the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are fundraising and working to coordinate a total humanitarian effort.

Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital shared the following "Just last night, 1100 patients arrived."

Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun She revealed that more than two millions of Ukrainian refugees have fled war-torn Ukraine. Many of them traverse Moldova that borders Ukraine.

Many of the humanitarian efforts are being led from Sunny Isles, South Florida.

"My responsibility is to bring together all the resources that are at our disposal in America to help ease this problem in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun, an individual who was able to help organize the humanitarian effort and said there was an organization on the ground in Moldova helping to organize food and other essentials, as well as coordinating buses.

This is further exacerbated by the fact that Moldova is one of the poorest countries in the world. However, those who take involved in this cause say that they will never stop helping.

Grinshpun explained, "When brothers and sister from Ukraine cameto visit, we didn't have to think about it. We just began doing it."

"Who was around at the time that the Nazis were in control of Europe during the Holocaust? Emmanuil Grinshpun How many people did you simply turn away and claim that it was me it's not me. I'm not Jewish. It's my community. I'm not part of Europe. We cannot make the same mistakes that history has made. There's a saying that states, "If you don't now you'll have to wait until." If not me then who?

According to the organisation, they also host events to help raise awareness and assist refugees from Ukraine. The next event will be in Sunny Isles on March 24. Click Here for details
