Emmanuel Grinshpun. Restoring synagogues as well as the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil Grinshpun discussed the topic of the restoration of synagogues during their interview. It was however impossible to focus the discussion on just one subject. There were many topics that were discussed in the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. It was an honor to meet you. We have not seen each for five years. Where are you currently located?

The last nine months have been divided between Miami and Jurmala. While the areas were previously more diverse, the consequences of the epidemic have had an enormous impact on our lifestyles. I cannot say that this is in the best way.

You've always had multiple lines of business. Do you still feel like that?

Our primary focus is on IT-holding has been involved in the reform of tax systems in a number of countries. We have developed and continue to design tools that aid in the transfer of many business processes connected to online taxation. This is known as B2G ("Business to Government").

What is the situation in the area in which the facility is situated? Are there any ex- USSR nations?

They are in existence. We have more agreements in Western, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. The current number of contracts we have is 14 countries.

Could you briefly describe the essence of this product?

Our product allows economic agents to file tax reports online. The fiscal data manager can view every transaction. It also permits tax accounting as well as tax computation to be done simultaneously. So in the future, we could declare that medium- and small-sized businesses will not even need accounting, unless it is for an analytical purpose, and the process of tax reporting and paying taxes can be accomplished with just one "click".

No. My family's heritage has been linked to Moldova for a number of generations. If we are to keep our family names from the past, it is with Bessarabia. And Jurmala appeared in our lives quite by accident and quite prosaically. We were invited to attend the New Wave by Igor Krutoy, and that was our first experience with Jurmala. After several competitions, they began to visit every summer. Miami has a very hot summer. We rented for a few years a property and thus have it now.

In the late 80s, my family and I relocated to the USA and it is possible to claim that it was at this time that I began to observe customs and rituals. While I'm not a part of the Christian faith that is orthodox I am still adamant about the need to be a part of as best I can and to be a part of the life of the Jewish community of the countries I live in or in Moldova. This is where I came from and which I have continued to share the most close connections with.

While I'm not religious, I do love the history of my country. However, I was able to see in the program the program mentioned that the discovery of America in 1492 from Medieval Europe was not as remarkable as Spanish monarchs' expulsion of Jews of Spain. When the exodus of Jews began to the Ottoman Empire, it accepted the Jews. I would like to know more about the past, culture and achievements of Jews. Would you recommend a book that I could go through?

There are a lot of books. But I've read all of them and I'd suggest Max Diamond, the two-volume Jewish historian. In addition, he is from Finland.

What is your "personal" story ? Unfortunately, I do not know anything beyond my grandmother's name and 1910. One step further on the paternal side but nothing more.

Their wealth was evident through a furniture factory, numerous shops and land parcels. The evidence of monuments and documents confirm this assertion. Ungheni was home to my grandparents. I'm talking about dates in the region from the 17th-18th century. Grinshpun is a surname that has German roots, so we're the pure Ashkenazi from Eastern Europe.

The issue now is the restoration or synagogues. I heard that you have funded three synagogues' restoration. One is in Chisinau and one located in Jurmala. The third one is in Jurmala.

The third and most important, is located in Netanya (Israel). Netanya is a large community center where 1,000 people pray each day. It is an important milestone in Israel's religious history. The second synagogue, Jurmala. The Second World War began and the Jurmala synagogue was among the one that was destroyed the last time. Prior to taking the decision to build a new synagogue, I talked frequently with the local Jews and that led to the fact that I decided to raise funds for the building of the synagogue and to invite a rabbi there. It was a very successful project, which united the Jews of Jurmala. The project actually restored the Jewish community and it's still functioning perfectly. The synagogue now has three Torahs, I gave one to the synagogue.

Yes. Alexander Bilinkis, Alexander Weinstein and I are currently partners in this project. These synagogues aren't the only ones that I am involved in construction or restoration. In every country where I've been for a long time I felt it was my responsibility to contribute an achievable contribution to the support of synagogues. My current contribution is in Monaco, where a large community centre for Russian-speaking Jews is in the process of being constructed. It is believed that it will cost about 12 million dollars. I continue to assist Chisinau. It is expected to become the largest synagogue in the city, the synagogue Rabbi Tsirelson.

Also, did you invite Rabbis from Chisinau to join Jurmala?

Yes. It can be difficult to find the right rabbi in the community. Because of the numerous concerns that are involved, the rabbi has to be non-conflictual and diplomatic capable of integrating organically into the community's life. I'm pleased to say that both in Chisinau and Jurmala the rabbis were able so seamlessly to become part of the community.

In 2019 you were elected vice-president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. What does the post have to do with YOU? How can international Jewish organisations influence global trends in general?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress is a powerful political organization within the post-Soviet region and not just. There are branches of the organization that are located in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. In 2010, I served as Vice President and then offered the position of First Vice Presider. I am now responsible for the areas in which I have strong political and business relations. These "countries" include Uzbekistan Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. If you examine global trends in the world, the barometer for attitudes toward Jews has either remained the same or declined and is extremely regrettable. Did the pandemic affect the processes?

It is not what I believe. Rather, in connection with the pandemic, I'd like to once again emphasize the things a society or country can do when they are prepared to meet any challenge and competent and work in a coordinated manner.

Do you refer to the vaccination program in Israel?

Exactly. Israel is the first country to provide 100 percent vaccination to its entire adult population. This is a great example to follow and something all nations must be aware of.
