Traveling to Egypt With Kids
Egypt has a rich history, and it’s easy to grasp that history with a visit. The pyramids are the most iconic image of Egypt, and they are still a wonder to behold. But there’s so much more to this country than just the pyramids. Cairo is full of amazing mosques and museums where you can learn about ancient artifacts and how they were made. There are also many temples that have been built over thousands of years in Luxor, along the banks of the Nile River—these are some of our favorites!

The pyramids

The pyramids are in Giza, which is located southwest of Cairo.

They were built to house the pharaohs' bodies, and they're the largest and oldest pyramids in Egypt.

They were also one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (the other six were: Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Temple at Delphi with its Oracle Room & Sacred Stoa; Mausoleum or Tomb built by King Mausolos at Halicarnassus; Colossus of Rhodes).

Today only three remain standing: Cheops (Khufu), Khafre (or Khephren) and Menkaure (Mycerinus).

The Great Sphinx

The Great Sphinx of Egypt is a mythical creature with the head of a lion and body of a human. It's one of the most famous Egyptian monuments in the world, and it has been estimated to be around 4,500 years old.

The Sphinx is carved out of a solid rock at Giza Plateau in Egypt, which means that it is made up entirely out of one piece—no filling or cracking! This makes it an extremely impressive feat to create this type of monumental sculpture.

It's also the largest monolith statue in the world; standing at 66 feet long (20 meters) and 19 feet high (6 meters). Additionally, if you were to stand next to it holding your arm straight out horizontally (perpendicular), your hand would reach just under halfway down its chest. So yes: this thing really is huge!

Cairo

Cairo is the capital of Egypt, and it’s a city of contrasts. It’s both old and new, with buildings from centuries past standing alongside modern structures that reach for the sky. With its ancient tombs, mosques, and cathedrals it’s also one of the most culturally rich cities in the world—a must-see for anyone interested in history or architecture.

Along with being a city of contrasts, Cairo is also filled with culture: art galleries are scattered throughout its neighborhoods and street performers can be seen every day in historic downtown Tahrir Square (you may even recognize some faces from your favorite movies or TV shows). If you want some history along with your shopping trip then head over to Khan al Khalili bazaar where you'll find everything from traditional clothing items like scarves to antique swords used by Egyptians during battles such as Napoleon's invasion in 1798 AD(Anno Domini). Or just spend time exploring some of Cairo's museums like Egyptian Museum which houses artifacts dating back thousands of years ago!

Luxor

Luxor is a city in Upper Egypt and the capital of Luxor Governorate. It was formerly known as Thebes (Greek: Θῆβαι) and in ancient times as Waset or Khenu. It's famous for its temples, tombs, monuments, and other archaeological sites including the Valley of the Kings.

In addition to being a major tourist destination with plenty of things to see and do, Luxor serves as an important cultural centre for this part of Egypt. Many festivals take place here throughout the year including Ramadan lanterns at Karnak Temple during Moulid el-Nabi celebrations; the Opet Festival (a procession from Karnak Temple to Luxor Temple); Ushabti Festival (procession between four shrines); Mummy Wrappings Festival (celebrates mummification process); Bastet Festival (celebrates Bastet's cat form).

Suez Canal

The Suez Canal is a man-made canal located in Egypt. It's the world's longest, stretching across 117 miles and connecting the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. The canal was built in 1869 to allow ships to move from one ocean to another without having to sail around Africa, which was a time-consuming route. Today, it's used for transporting goods from one continent to another and also for oil transport.
