Avanos Medical, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) company is recalling Cortrak*2 enteral access device because of misplacement of nasoenteric tubes or nasogastric tubs that could have led to injuries or even death of patients. The recall covers 629 devices which were distributed throughout the United States.
Avanos selling its Cortrak*2 Endural Access System is known for the on-screen images of stomachs and small bowels, which aid in the placement of medical feeding tubes. Avanos Medical If a tube is inserted improperly it is possible for patients to suffer injury to their vocal cords, lungs or trachea. Avanos Medical released a recall announcement stating that there have been a total of 60 accidents and 23 deaths resulting from the misplacement of a tube in 2015 due to the CORTRAK*2 Access System. The Avanos warning was the second FDA warning in 2022 regarding enteral feed tubes.
