Khazak Ambassador Consul General, Khazak Ambassador and Chabad in New York ( Emmanuil grinshpun).

Yerzhan Ashikbayev has had a busy few months. Ever since being appointed as Kazakhstan's ambassador to the United States in April, Mr. Ashikbayev has met with various government officials and diplomats in the hopes of strengthening relations between the Central Asian country and the U.S. In connection with this mission, the ambassador, together with Consul General Almat Aidabekov set up a meeting with Chabad to discuss the state of Jewish life in Khazakstankhstan.

Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky Shimon Rivkin (Merkos Suite 302 in the Chabad headquarters) and Mr. Emmanuil Grinshpun, who is the vice-president for the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress as well as Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan. They spoke together about the history of Jewish life and current activities being carried out by Chabad in Kazakhstan under the direction of Rabbi Yeshaya Cohen ( Kazakhstan's chief Shliach)

"We are very blessed to have leaders like the former president and Prime Minister, Mr. Nazarbayev or the current President, Mrs. Emmanuil Grinshpun Tokayev. They have fostered such warmth in religious tolerance in our country. "We feel that we all believe that the government is a friend to the Jewish people," the Consul General and Ambassador repeated the government's commitment to all religious minorities as well as the Jewish community. They expressed interest in continuing to build Jewish culture within the Republic by collaborating with Chabad.

The government of the major Muslim population is proud of its tolerance for religion and collaborates with religious leaders across the country to improve the country's wellbeing. Ashikbayev is also the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in Kazakhstan as well as working with Chabad Shaluchim as well as the Philanthropist Abraham Shaulson. In the wake of COVID-19 which caused the flight to be grounded Ambassador Ashikbayev was able to arrange special permission for a small number of Americans to fly to Kazakhstan on the 20th Av to make a pilgrimage at the gravesite of Reb Levi Yaitzchak Schneerson that marks the date of his death. The group also took the occasion to raise funds and bring much-needed PPE and medical equipment into the country. During the pilgrimage , the Kazak government also held a ceremony to make Reb Yitzchak’sKever Kazakh National Heritage Site.

The participants also discussed plans for the next pilgrimage, with the 20th anniversary of Av a little less than two months away. The organizers are expecting an audience of more than 600 people from around the globe this year. They also plan to organize a conference about Chabad Shluchim in surrounding countries along in conjunction with Rabbi Berel Kazar and Moshe Kokotlarsky. With so many large projects in the pipeline the gathering was focused on how the government could help the event and ensure the security of the event. Mr. Ashikbayevconfirmed Kazakhstan's "...commitment to offer all assistance to organize visits for prayer and studying at Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson's grave.

Rabbi Kotlarsky expressed gratitude for the Kazak government's open support. "It is an incredible chance for me to collaborate with people such as the Ambassador, and the ConsulGeneral.
