Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI(CBSMiami), Ukraine war may be on opposite side of the planet But South Floridians are able to aid those fleeing.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Many members of the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are fundraising and working in coordinating a massive humanitarian effort.

Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital stated that "just last night, 1100 patients arrived."

She added that over two million Ukrainian refugees are seeking to escape their war-torn country. Many of them travel through Moldova which shares a border with Ukraine.

Jaquays told Jaquays, "From Moldova this Jewish community is actually helping to move them across the border and then possibly by providing shelter, food and clothes."

The core of a lot of the humanitarian effort can be found in South Florida.

"My job is to coordinate all the resources available from American society to help the people in Moldova. https://speakerdeck.com/emmanuilgrinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun who helps coordinate the humanitarian efforts said, "We have a full team on the ground to help organize camps, buy food, set up buses, and arrange all the facilities."

Even worse is the fact that Moldova is one of the poorest nations around the globe. Emmanuil Grinshpun Yet, those who participate in this project affirm that they will not allow anything hinder them from helping.

Grinshpun stated, "When our Ukrainian brothers and sisters came, we didn’t have to think. We just began doing it."

"Who was present during the Holocaust at the time that the Nazis overtook it? How many people have gone blind claiming it's not them and that they're not Jewish and it's not my community and that it's not Europe? Emmanuil Grinshpun We can't make the same mistakes as history. There's a saying "If you don't now, when." If not me, then whom?

The group says they are also organizing a number of events locally with the aim of raising awareness and help the Ukraine refugees. The next event will be held in Sunny Isles on March 24. Click Here for details
