GlyphosateIn the years to come our food supply will be assured: that is why farmers use Glyphosate to sustainably cultivate their crops.
It's not a surprise that the population of the world is increasing. In 2050, we're predicted to have reached 9.7 billion people in the world--over 2 billion more than today.1 The problem is that the land that can be used for farming isn't expanding with the population. This poses serious problems for farmers tasked with producing enough high-quality food to feed Canadians and people around the globe.

Canada is currently 5th in global food exports.2 Canadian farmers will play crucial roles in providing the food that the world requires. They will need to be able to cater to an increasing demands.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. How to feed the entire world in 2050

This increasing demand is simply too difficult for farmers to manage alone. Modern technology, such as herbicides and glyphosate can be used to aid farmers in controlling herbicides effectively and effectively. This means an improved sustainability and stability of food supply.

Glyphosate is an effective herbicide that has been utilized by land managers, gardeners farmers, and other people around the world for over 40 years. It works by inducing an enzyme that plants need to develop, in this case undesirable herbicides. These enzymes are not present in humans or animals.4 Thus, when used correctly, glyphosate does not pose a risk to either.5

There are many other applications for glyphosate too. It is used in cities to safeguard wildlife and humans from poisonous plants.6 It is also used on railroads to improve visibility for conductors and ensure that accidents are not caused on tracks.

Glyphosate and its use have been the subject of greater attention in recent years. グリホサート 雨上がり While it's important for us to inquire about the food we consume, it's worth noting the fact that more than 160 international regulatory organizations (including Health Canada) agree that glyphosate can be safely employed when done correctly.

Canadians must be able to understand what glyphosate means, how it is used and what it does for food production.

Glyphosate is a pesticide which can be utilized in the field of agriculture.

The use in agriculture of glyphosate-based herbicides benefits farmers, consumers and the natural environment. This is crucial for efficient herbicide control, safe food supply, and sustainable development of the environment. Let's explore the advantages of each in more in depth.

グリホサート In the world, farmers lose between 30-40% to 40 percent of their crops to pests, diseases, and weeds.9 According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) this losses could increase by a third when crop protection methods are not used. It's a devastating loss, particularly for farmers, especially when you consider that those crops are their livelihood.

It's not surprising that farmers have come to rely on tools each year. The application of glyphosate to fields is an effective method to keep destructive weeds out of crops, especially glyphosate-tolerant crops.

Crops and. weeds - the fight of their life

Glyphosate can give crops a chance to beat up to 30,000 weeds for space, light, nutrients, and water.

Canada and around the world enjoy numerous advantages: Affordable, plentiful food

The population is increasing, and half of today's food-growing land is at risk of becoming inaccessible in less than 40 years because of desertification and degradation.10 This is leading to an increase in food shortages. Canadians are likely to pay less than 55% for food items if there aren't any modern farming innovations such as the use of glyphosate.11

In addition, the foods we love eating are becoming more difficult to obtain. Science-based agriculture will enable farmers to keep growing our favorite staple foods for many more years.

Glyphosate does more than just help keep your produce at a reasonable cost. It aids farmers in caring for what Cherilyn Jolly Nagle, an Saskatchewan farmer, calls "their most valuable asset" that is their land.

Keep the dishes that we love to eat on your table

Farmers can flourish by using crop protection tools, such as glyphosate are employed to guard their crops from diseases and pests.

42% more grains are similar to wheat and corn

72% more fruits

83% more vegetables and potatoes12

The benefits are evident. But is glyphosate safe for use?

It is essential to keep in mind that all pesticides need to be used in accordance with instructions on the label. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) inspects crops for pesticide residue and makes sure that farmers use the pesticide in a safe manner. The Pest Management Regulatory Agency, (PMRA) is a regulatory agency that provides guidelines, product submission evaluations and approvals (or rejects) and is one of the strictest evaluation procedures around the globe.

While regulatory agencies are responsible for ensuring that farmers use approved herbicides correctly, farmers and manufacturers also play an important part in ensuring that glyphosate can be used safely and properly so that there is no harm to the environment, animals or even humans.

Furthermore the use of precision agriculture has allowed farmers to utilize data and enhance their ability to apply glyphosate at the precise areas and quantities.

It is extremely rare that pesticide residues are found in food. But, it can still cause harm when it is. CFIA assures that farmers apply herbicides effectively and in a safe manner and keep within the set limits for residue.

Glyphosate usage as part of sustainable agriculture practices

Farmers use herbicides such glyphosate as part of integrated pest/weed management practices. This means they use more herbicides than weedicides. Glyphosate has enabled farmers to implement conservation methods and no-till practices that offer long-term benefit for the soil and air.

- The reduction or elimination plowing/tilling land

- Reduction in CO2 emissions

Capturing carbon soil

Improve soil health

- Reducing water runoff and erosion

"No pesticide regulatory authority in the world has deemed glyphosate to be a cancer risk to humans at the levels to that humans are exposed." - Health Canada (January 11, 2019)

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

The most important thing is making sure Canadian farmers have the tools, technology and assistance they require in order to supply the ever-growing food requirements of an ever-growing population.

We can anticipate that farmers will ensure our food's safety and abundance by using the best agricultural and food safety and insect management practices. Glyphosate is only one tool they'll use to ensure Canadians can access affordable, nutritious food for the future.
