Judul peta
Judul peta biasanya diletakkan di
bagian atas peta. Judul mencerminkan
isi dan tipe peta.
Tahun dan sumber pembuatan peta
Tahun atau sumber pembuatan peta
dapat diletakkan di bagian bawah
kolom legenda atau sudut kiri bawah, di
luar garis tepi peta.
Penunjuk arah
Penunjuk arah disebut juga mata
angin. Umumnya menggunakan
penunjuk arah utara. Penunjuk
diletakkan di tempat yang kosong di
bagian pinggir peta agar tidak
mengganggu peta induknya.
Skala
Skala peta dapat dituliskan di bawah
legenda, di luar garis pinggir peta,
atau di bawah judul peta.
Legenda
Legenda berisi keterangan-keterangan
tentang simbol-simbol yang digunakan
pada peta. Simbol adalah gambar yang
digunakan untuk mewakili objek yang
dipetakan. Tujuannya adalah untuk
memudahkan pemakai peta dalam
memahaminya.
Garis Astronomi
Garis astronomi terdiri dari garis
lintang dan garis bujur. Gunanya untuk
menentukan letak astronomis satu
tempat (letak lintang dan bujur). Pada
pinggir peta ditulis angka derajat yang
menunjukkan derajat garis lintang
atau garis bujur. Garis astronomis
dipakai dalam peta-peta yang skalanya
kecil sampai sedang.
Garis tepi
Garis tepi biasanya dibuat dua buah
dengan ketentuan garis luar lebih tebal
dari garis dalam.
Inset
Inset adalah gambar peta yang
menunjukkan letak atau posisi satu
daerah terhadap daerah sekitarnya
yang lebih luas. Misalnya, posisi
Indonesia di Benua Asia. Petanya
dibuat di luar peta utama tetapi masih
berada dalam garis tepi peta utama.
