You know what they say regarding people who repeat the same thing but expect different results. This is often the standard definition of "insanity". Unfortunately, many of our youth football coaches are suffering from this player decimating condition. They continue to do the same old thing year in and year out, with no change in their frustratingly poor or inconsistent results. In my first few years of coaching youth football, I went through the above post season assessment. My answer was always the same: I needed better football players to solve my problem. My thoughts were that I needed better x, better y players, and kids with more motivation etc. It was always the children's fault. We would do well if we had a "good team".

4) We want a well planned and well organized practice with little to no standing around. We need structure. You must be the leader. We want to be actively involved. We expect you to coach everyone, not just the best players. We know when it is not possible to prepare and when it is difficult to manage a group of boys.

This one is tricky. If you're under 18, I'd stay away from this one. I realize most high schoolers drink coffee and those femme latte-crap drinks, but, something about putting caffeine in pill form causes problems. You are young, so you should be wired up to the roof.

There are some youth football coaches that believe "the more the merrier" when it comes to player numbers. Many of these coaches believe that if they have more players, they will have a better chance of finding a star to lead their team. There is a local team that carried 40-60 players on its squad and still lost most of its games, poor coaching often won't even overcome huge talent pools. One of our Omaha league teams faced a team with 52 players. Most league teams are made up of between 22 and 35 players. High numbers are guaranteed to cause headaches for head coaches, but very low numbers will not.

The same goes for practicing. Do you want to lose your job? Don't practice.even once. I guarantee someone will steal it from your hands. Just because someone is your backup doesn't mean you're better.ask Tom Brady and Drew Bledsoe.and, if you're the back up, POUNCE on any opportunity that you can get like this.

If you don't hear from anyone within two weeks, you should follow up with the coaches you have sent your information to. Most coaches will respond to your request if they are interested. You won't need to harass them.
