Good morning, afternoon or evening depending on whenever you're watching this speech. I am Mohamed Abdihakim and I study cybersecurity. Although I am Kenyan by citizenship, I grew up in Somalia and in this speech, I will be talking on a traditional festival that's highly regarded where I'm from, EID. This festival is also celebrated here in Malaysia and is referred to as Hari Raya. It's starts early in the morning at around 7am when we wear new clothes, to go for the EID prayer. After leaving the prayers the kids are taken for dessert (mostly icecream) while the Adults either accompany them or stay behind to slaughter a goat or sometimes a sheep. The meat is used in making a ridiculous amount of brown rice which is shared by several relative families that come to visit. After everyone eats to their fill, grownups usually sleep the afternoon or chat amongst each other until the late afternoon prayer. When the prayer is over, children are taken to carnivals and the teen boys play football somewhere nearby. After everyone is exhausted, dinner is eaten out in a restaurant to conclude the day. On the second or third day, families go on a 4-hour road trip to a town by the shore called Berbera.People of all ages play beach volleyball and swim all day with nothing else on their mind. Despite a menu with variety, the people visiting from the city just have to get seafood. If you order anything else people will genuinely question you choice. The trip back is back to the city is long and dark. No child ever made it back to the city without sleeping and so for me this is where the celebration always ended.
