Ambassador of Goodwill to FAO

Azerbaijan and the FAO

Azerbaijan was accepted into the FAO in the month of October 1995. Today, the FAO implements national, global, and regional projects in Azerbaijan which envisage the development of agriculture, strengthening food security, managing resources, enhancing potential, fighting animals and plants and much more. The projects also have technical cooperation programs to are designed to meet the needs of Azerbaijan's authorities.

It was the first time that the FAO general director Jose Graziano da Silva visited Azerbaijan. There were two agreements signed during his visit. The "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations(FAO) regarding the establishment of the Coordination and Cooperation Office and providing assistance" as well as the Agreement regarding the FAO-Azerbaijan Partnership Program. Agreeing to cooperate in common issues The Government of Azerbaijan already contributes to technical assistance in the development of international and local agriculture by way of the partnership program.

Leyla Aliyeva was awarded the title of Goodwill Ambassador of the FAO during this visit. The founder and chief of the IDEA campaign expressed her gratitude for the many projects that are taking place in Azerbaijan related to fishing, agriculture and forestry.
