What exactly is Roundup Ready and what are the Roundup Ready crops? Roundup Ready is the trademark term used to describe a variety of genetically modified plants which are resistant to Roundup. These are referred to as Roundup Ready crops.
Roundup Who was the person who invent it?
ラウンドアップ Glyphosate, the active agent in Roundup, was first discovered to be an herbicide in 1970 by Monsanto chemical scientist, John Franz. Most herbicides used in agriculture were pre-emergent. That means they were sprayed prior to the crops and grass weeds arose. The post-emergent activity of glyphosate in reducing many broadleaf and grass weeds was quite different. This, when combined with its extraordinary environmental (soil inactivation and rapid degradation, with no carryover, etc.) and toxicological properties (extremely minimal toxicity for beneficial organisms and mammals), made it a breakthrough product.
What year was Roundup first launched?
Roundup(r), which was initially introduced on the market as a broad spectrum herbicide in 1974, quickly became one of the most sought-after agricultural chemicals in the world. Roundup(r) was originally used in ditches, railroads and on fields between the growing seasons, quickly grew to prominence. It allowed farmers to control broadleaf and grass plants from the soil. It also decreased the need for tillage and preserved the soil structure.

Inspired by the groundbreaking developments in the field of recombinant DNA technology in the 1970s, Monsanto scientists recognized the numerous advantages for farmers when Roundup(r) could be applied directly on growing crops to control weeds within their fields. The challenge was first tackled by a small team of scientists headed by Dr. Ernie Jaworski (Rob Horsch and Steve Rogers), In the early 1980s this team had developed the first methods that allowed the introduction of particular genes into plants. Our focus was on the development of viruses-resistant insects resistant, Roundup-resistant crops.
