Minecraft Test Shows Beer Bad For Young Brain

Amentha Rajagobal, Maya Sengupta and Maya Murray who are both undergrads have discovered that alcohol can have a profound effect on the developing brain. This is mainly the hippocampus which is responsible for spatial navigation and memory formation.



While it is well-known that alcohol can affect the functioning of the brain in adults for a period of time, there is not much information about its effects on young brains.



The students asked undergraduate participants questions about their drinking habits to assess its efficacy. They wanted to be aware of the date they had their first drink, how frequently they drink, and how much.



Then, they asked the participants to play a game where they had to remember the locations of objects in Minecraft's world. Minecraft.



The two researchers discovered that those who began drinking earlier were more trouble recalling the locations of objects than those who drank later in adolescence.



Rajagobal says that the frontal lobes and the hippocampus are continuing to grow into our twenties. "They continue to change and grow in ways that the rest of the brain doesn't, which means they're more prone to damage from things such as drinking too early at age."



However, the consequences of such damage could go beyond the loss of ability to navigate through an event or down the street.
