Poker Terms - A Basic Poker Glossary
The game begins with a small bet, known as an ante. Players are then given two cards each, one face up, and one faced down. The pocket card is the face down card. As in 7-card stud poker, the player with the lowest face up card on the table has to start the betting. The next round begins with the player to his immediate left of the one who placed their first bet. Players can choose to fold, call or bet.

After the blinds have been paid each player is dealt four cards by the dealer. These cards are known as a player's pocket (or hole) cards, and must be kept hidden from other competitors. Each player must use two of these cards in order to make their final 5-card hand. Players can choose which two of their four pockets cards they want to use and combine them with three of five community cards to create their final 5-card poker hand.

Omaha poker can be played with up to ten people. Each player receives four cards from the dealer. After four rounds of betting card poker, five community cards are placed face-up on the table. These cards are shared by all players. To make the best poker hand possible, the player combines any two or more of the four cards they have with the community cards.

A final card is dealt face up and another round of betting completes this hand. The player with the best poker hand out of the five-card flop and the two cards in their hand wins the pot. As with other poker games, the best five-card hand will take down the money. Each player has the option to call, raise, or fold their hand during the betting that follows any one of these dealings.

The dealer then proceeds to "burn one last card face down on table" and deals the final River card to the board. Although there are now five cards on the table for Texas Holdem, each player can only use three of those cards to make a 5-card poker hand. Poker action begins with the small-blind and the dealer acts last. Check, Bet. Raise. or Fold. After this round of wagering is completed, the showdown begins.

The dealer does not face down another card and then deals one card. This is known as the turn. Now there are four community card on the table. To make a five-card poker hand, each player can use any of the cards listed above and the two cards that they already have.
