Georges Kern, the former CEO of IWC and former Head of Watchmaking at Richemont, also joined Breitling in 2017 and has been at the helm ever since. The "eight" in the department's name originated from the fact that their onboard clocks had eight-day power reserves. Today, the Navitimer 8 has a maximum power reserve of 70 hours.
