What is Watsu?
Massage therapy is the practice of soft tissue manipulation for the purpose of restoring health or relieving pain. This type of treatment is often called "Mesotherapy" and is based on the same principles of chiropractic medicine. When a patient undergoes this kind of treatment, he/she lies down on a table under a massage table and/or chair. The patient is not obliged to lie down, but it has been discovered that many patients prefer lying face down to allow easier access to all areas of the body.

In this type of therapy, pressure is applied to various points of the body in order to ease discomfort, relax the body and/or help in healing. There are two kinds of massage therapy: full-body massage and massage chairs. Massage chairs mimic manual therapy. Full-body massage demands that the client lay down on a table with their eyes closed and/or spend some time in a room heated. The massage movements in massage chairs are programmed to produce a variety of effects, including the relief of sore muscles and full-body massage.

Massage therapy has numerous benefits, including the stimulation of tissue repair and the increase in tension in the muscles. A full-body massage will involve the application of pressure to multiple areas of the body by the massage therapist. The massage therapist will typically begin with the feet and move upwards. The back and abdominal areas will be massaged, along with the main muscle groups such as the shoulders, neck elbows, feet buttocks and back. In addition, the massage therapist may apply stretching or resistance movement to specific muscles or regions of the body.

To aid the practitioner in providing efficient and gentle stretching exercises, it is important to understand what the practitioner is doing. For instance, in watsu, when the massage therapist makes a thrusting motion to move from toe to the practitioner must make sure that his/her hands are firm and that they don't leave marks on the surface of the toes. The therapist can increase flexibility and decrease soreness by performing the proper stretching on the body of the client.

Traditional Japanese massages also incorporate techniques that promote circulation. For example, the practitioner may hold the person's forefinger or hand in the palm for a half hour. With the help of deep, slow breathing the practitioner then stimulates specific points on the palm to release the finger. This is called tsukubai. Practitioners may also use tapping or kokyunage. This is a technique that increases circulation and removes blood clots that are stagnant.

This type of massage aims to restore mobility to the spine's joints and strengthen the soft tissues surrounding it. Like traditional watsu the application of gentle pressure along the joint motion is required to ease stiffness and promote healing. To achieve maximum effect, the practitioner should not just apply pressure directly however, they must also stretch the muscles in the direction of joints as well as cartilage changes. Examples of the stretches utilized in this technique include lordosis, or lifting of one leg in the air, and kegels, or pelvic tilts. Injury prevention is possible by correctly stretching the muscles and soft tissue.

This kind of massage is also referred to as "hot and cold" because it involves two types of stretching. One is usually performed with cold compression while the second is performed using warm compresses. Hot compresses can be used for up to two to five minutes if you have swelling or inflammation due to an injury. There are a variety of cool and warm compressions. Numbness may indicate that the therapist has applied too much heat. There may be irritation or pain if the compressions are too hot.

One of the great benefits of watsu massage is that it encourages flexibility, balance, and strength. Many of these benefits were lost as the methods were changed from traditional to scientific. The reduction in muscle tension is one benefit that is still achievable. This massage can also be used to increase flexibility if you feel restricted. There are also some practitioners from the early 1980s who believe that the early versions of watsu were not as effective as they are now.
