We thought that it would be a bit more distant but it's not - Mojang has announced that you can play Minecraft 1.19 today. As long as you're willing to play an extremely experimental beta version, that is. Minecraft: Java Edition Players has the first beta snapshot of 1.19. This allows you to explore the Deep Dark and meet the Warden.
You can find information on how to install the snapshot over on the official site Be aware that you won't be able play old worlds. You'll have to create another one, and it's unlikely that you'll be able to take any worlds that you've played in the snapshot that was created into future versions of the game.
This snapshot isn't a complete list of every feature scheduled for 1.19, also known as the Wild update It does however include the Deep Dark biome, the Ancient City biome, the Warden mob, sculk blocks and the swift sneak enchantment, and the dark mob effect.
When you are playing around with the new features though, bear in mind that this is still an experimental snapshot. Minecraft servers means that these systems are still being developed, so every feature is susceptible to major modifications.
