Advanced medical care is typically provided by EMS, although some police officers and firefighters also train to become emergency medical technicians or paramedics. Under the Occupational First Aid Regulations 2007, there is a requirement on management, based on a risk assessment, to have a sufficient number of staff complete a first aid responder training trained and available in the workplace at all times. On successful completion of this course participants will receive a Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council First Aid Responder Certificate which is valid for 2 years. PHECC are the regulator for emergency medical services in Ireland and their role is to protect the public. The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council is an independent statutory agency with responsibility for standards, education and training in the field of pre-hospital emergency care. First Aid training is based on providing students with the skills and knowledge that are essential to the delivery of a first aid response capability. Participants will learn how to use the requisite skills to deal with many workplace injuries and also display the necessary composure, competence and self-confidence to assist those in distress.
This standard is designed to meet first aid and basic life support requirements that a person known as “First Aid Responder” may encounter. The FAR Standard meets the Health and Safety Authority requirement for occupational first aid training for the workplace. The Child and Family Agency guidance also recognises FAR as the standard for child care. It's a foundation first aid course that trains course participants to provide first aid for a person who becomes suddenly unwell or injured until the arrival of emergency medical services. FAR includes the full Cardiac First Response Community standard also. Our approach to training incorporates both practical and interactive learning, giving the participants the confidence and ability to put theory into practice and to cope with real-life situations that may arise in the workplace. Frank provided an excellent First Aid training course for our TY students. He delivered information in a very professional concise manner and students also completed hands on training as part of the workshop. The First Aid Certificates were delivered less than a week after the course was completed and students, staff and parents are delighted with the two year First Aid qualifications.
