Teenager Arrested Over Mass School Bomb Hoax

After a huge bomb hoax shut down hundreds of colleges and schools across the UK, the teen believed to be at the center of an Minecraft gamers feud was arrested.



The 19-year-old was detained by Hertfordshire police after some 24,000 threatening emails were sent to schools warning of imminent bomb attacks unless cash was handed over.



The emails were faked to look as if they were sent by a gaming platform called VeltPvP. VeltPvP is a Minecraft player-versus-player server, of the kind that companies make use of to sell their products to gamers.

The 19-year-old was detained by Hertfordshire police after 24,000 emails were sent to schools warning them of an imminent attack



The emails were aimed at cause the domain to be suspended for abuse - and are believed to be from a group aiming to undermine VeltPvP.



The National Crime Agency (NCA) stated that there was no credible threat to the emails' that were received this week.

In a statement, they said that they understood parents' and teachers' concerns but stress there was no threat of serious consequence to the school's emails.



However, we are taking the information seriously. We are unable to comment further on this as it is an ongoing investigation.



Signs were put up on the outside of Cardinal Road School in Feltham in the aftermath of the bomb hoax emails



People involved in the squabble said that their adversaries had engaged in illegal activities in order to hinder one another's businesses.



When asked whether he regretted the effect the letters had on school children who were forced to leave one of the hoaxers responded, "It is terrible, it'sn't the nicest thing."



The blame is being placed on VeltPvP, the hoaxer said VeltPvP was involved in a series of Direct Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks - which he claims were used to try and shut down other competitors' Minecraft servers.



Parents were asked to collect their children following the threat to bomb hoax in the email



In an official statement, VeltPvP said: 'We've been harassed by a group of cybercriminals that are trying to smear us in any way possible.



We're very sorry for everyone who has to go through this, but just know it's not real.'



The email was sent to more than 400 colleges and schools across the nation. It claimed that the bomb was already planted and would explode if money wasn't given.



Cardinal Road School, Feltham West London was one of the schools to receive the hoax email.



Police forces from London, Bristol, Liverpool and Bedfordshire were among those who were questioned.



Parents at some schools asked to to pick their children up in the wake of concerns about the emails.



Six schools across Hertfordshire were also among those affected: Abbots Hill in Hemel Hempstead, Valley School in Stevenage, The Sele School in Hertford, Duncombe School in Hertford, Stanborough School in Watford and St Albans High School.
