An Introduction to Tui Massage
Traditional Chinese massage has been for many years to treat a wide range of ailments, both physical and mental. Many of these ailments have helped people avoid discomfort, and sometimes, the dangers of modern medicine. Traditional Chinese massage has gained popularity in recent times, not only in the West but as well in Asia. Many Western clients who have tried traditional Chinese massage therapy are able to enjoy the physical and mental benefits such as stress relief, better muscle alignment and stress relief. However, not all customers are aware of how this ancient therapy works.

As with many other oriental medical practices the traditional Chinese massage starts with the ancient Chinese belief that there are several layers of interconnected tissues throughout the body. These various layers are connected to one another through energy called Qi (pronounced "chi"). This energy is usually described as a mixture of positive and negative forces, which are the result of interactions between various organ systems and their associated wastes. Some of these interactions result in blockages, for which traditional Chinese medicine uses various treatments to unblock these blockages. These treatments include herbal remedies, acupuncture, as well as massages that use pressure points.

There are four main kinds of techniques that are used in this oriental medical practice. The first two are more specific, and the fourth and third have common elements. One of these, referred to as a joint heat therapy, is usually done on people with muscle spasms or those who have been injured. This technique involves grasping a joint in either the thumb or fingers, and applying sustained heat to improve circulation. To increase blood flow and ease tension from the muscles or tendons press the thumb or finger into a specific location on the body.

Other techniques that are commonplace involve the use of oils and creams on the skin and on the muscles. These products help soften the hard, dry parts of the body, while at the simultaneously increasing the softness of the smoother areas. These products are usually made by mixing essential oils with cold-pressed vegetable oils. Castor oil, a popular oil in traditional Chinese medicine is a great example. The third of the basic techniques in traditional chinese massage therapy is the use of pressure points. These can be applied to specific trouble areas or to to prevent certain diseases from returning.

Basic techniques can be accompanied by movements such as rolling, tapping and kneading. These actions increase blood flow and nourish the body. They can also be used to relax the mind. Certain kneading techniques are similar to those employed in yoga, since they combine gentle touches with controlled movements. A beginner's Chinese massage class could begin by students rolling their knuckles, and making gentle shakes in order to warm their bodies and increase the capillary vessels.

The primary purpose of this traditional Chinese medicine system is to promote wellbeing through relaxation. To achieve this goal, there needs to be a general feeling of calm and the practitioner must be able to bring about an overall state of relaxation in the person receiving the treatment as well as in himself. Through proper stimulation of the meridian channels, the qi will move throughout the body and benefit the entire person.

Chinese medicine maintains that the process of massage therapy is not just a one-time event. It is part of a daily regimen that helps to better comprehend the body and its systems. Therefore, the methods used in traditional chinese massage should be updated regularly to keep up with the most recent developments in health care. Many Chinese medical practitioners believe there are massage therapy techniques that can help relieve back pain. They also believe that there are other benefits to stretching.

The advancement of massage techniques has made them a complete system. They do not just involve kneading and squeezing but also rolling, percussions, vibration, and exfoliation. Chinese massages also incorporate the notions of gentle touch and manipulation of internal organs along with the concepts of stretching and strength training. Massage techniques have been proven effective in relieving stress, chronic tension and encouraging an overall balance between the physical and mental realms. Because the aim of tui massages is the promotion of health and well-being it is not unusual for massage therapists and therapists to incorporate herbal remedies like ginseng Liu Wei, Kelp, and wild yam as well as other natural supplements. These herbal and plant-based remedies help to restore the body's natural balance of qi (pronounced "chee"), which helps it fight illness and disease more efficiently.
