I own both, plus an espresso machine and a Lavazza capsule machine. All can produce good drinks. All have different capsules, plus the espresso machine needless to say is ground coffee direct and not capsules.
Capsules only fit the main one brand. You can buy original capsules for many or third party options for all. Check Amazon. I find the 3rd party capsules of the same quality or a lot better than original, but as long as you make time to experiment. They are much cheaper. Some are not so excellent, however, many originals too are poor. I have had great results with Amorcaffe Intenso and use that brand for my Lavazza and Nespresso machines.
All machines can produce similar results and I would choose on features and price. I mainly use my Nespresso with the AmorCaffe capsules as it comes with an attached milk steamer that produces decent, tho slightly too thick if you're a specialist barista, milk. I normally use 2 capsules in a 5oz cup for a good Flat White. I will produce a tad better in my own espresso machine but takes some time and why bother when I can get an 8/10 result rather than 9/10 utilizing the Nespresso. The Dolce Gusto capsules with milk included are not great … a 4/10 IMO … however the espresso only answers are just like my other machines.
