Java is not needed in an education environment. Except for testing, programming, and development, Java isn't needed in an educational environment. If you take out Java, you take out Minecraft... Blogging And all of the other games/services that use Java. Unless there is a reason, create a script to get rid of Java from all your machines.
Edit -- Also, to anyone here that uses Impero, you can put Minecraft on the Application Blacklist, I've had to do this before with Powershell, because there isn't an option in Group Policy to block it at the moment, like there is with Command Prompt.
@afeitguy I block everything at Edge. I allow outbound traffic on an individual basis, rule by rule. It is impossible to have everything outbound allowed and then block what you don't want. This is especially true in Colleges and Schools, where students are constantly trying bypass security measures. Although... Again... Try Impero !!!! It solves many of the problems that school IT techs face. If you haven't tried it yet and are worried it's a NetSupport scam, you'll be disappointed. The pricing isn’t too bad either. Think NetSupport meets Bit9 with a lower price tag.
