The Problems With the Word Breaking News
The expression "breaking news" has become a part of daily life, whether it is on television, radio, and the Internet. It is not restricted to any particular medium, but it can be traced back as far as the Middle Ages. Although it is not the sole culprit of the 24-hour news merchants, television and the internet got drunk on 'breaking' on the same day: Sept. 11. Three cable networks followed the story quickly, as did the growing blogosphere. The result was a story full of confusing details, rumors that seemed to pop out of nowhere, and a hot war in central Asia.

Radio

Some news organizations use the term "#keyword#" to describe news reports that are unusual or recent. This term can also be used to describe events that occurred decades back but are only now being made public. There are some problems with this term. It confuses major and minor events and refers to long-over information.

Television

There are many definitions for the term "breaking news". It originally meant something important enough to interrupt a program on television. This expression was popular in the days before cable news and when there weren't many television news bulletins. It's used to describe something that has just occurred that makes headlines. It can be used to describe almost any topic. Even though it is common, breaking news has its critics. There are many problems with this phrase.

Internet

The term 'breaking' is often used to describe an event, such a hurricane's explosion. However, the term can also be used for a more general event like a rumor or a conflict in central Asia. The term has a long history, but is most commonly used today in the context news coverage. Breaking news is an old and misunderstood phrase that is misleadingly used.

Medieval idiom

The phrase " Breaking News ", which dates back to the Middle Ages, has a long history. Its origins may be in the practice of medieval messengers, who would carry messages sealed with a seal, revealing new information when they opened the sealed parchment. The 1500s saw the first use of the phrase "break a problem" and it is still common in journalism. The phrase originally meant the first source to report newsworthy events. The phrase evolved to mean a newsworthy occasion over time and the idiom "break the news" was born.

Early days of cable news

Cable news' history can be traced back as far as the early days of television when Turner announced his plans to launch an all-news network. Reese Schonfeld was the first president of the new network. He insisted on an open newsroom that allowed viewers to view all aspects of production. At the time, this was a wild innovation. By June 1980, CNN had begun airing its shows. But how did it get there in the first place?

ABC's 'Breaking News'

The term "Breaking News", however, is not a new term. It has been used in this way since 1906, when it was codified by the Associated Press with the term FLASH. Although originally the term broke news was used to describe live events, it's now reserved for events that reach a wide audience. It originally meant anything that was "breaking" but later it expanded to include rumors, other soft news stories, and not necessarily breaking news.
