Minecraft: How To Create & Play On A Private Server

It's no secret that a lot of Minecraft's charm comes from the ability of users to play online with their friends. There are many ways to have fun in Minecraft. Private servers allow friends to enjoy Minecraft together from the comfort of their digital homes.

You'll need to ensure you have the most recent versions of Java and Minecraft installed before you can host your friends on your personal server. Click on the launcher to install the game and wait for it to update automatically. Java can be found here. Click "Agree and Continue" and follow the onscreen prompts. If nothing happens then your Java is updated.

Next, create a folder in your desktop to make it easy to find the files you are about to download. Go here and click on "minecraft_server.1.12.2.jar" to begin downloading the file. Make sure that you place it into the desktop folder you just created.

Now that the JAR file is where it belongs, create a text file inside the folder. If you don’t know how to do it, click “Home” on the folder windows and then “New Item” in the "New” section. Minecraft servers You should now be able to create a text document from the drop-down list.

Go back to your website where you downloaded JAR files and copy the highlighted text. Copy this command and paste it into the text file you just created in the folder. Once you're done, make sure the red text appears in the file. Save the text file as an AT file.

The image should now be located beside your JAR files. It should contain a couple of gears. Double-click on your newly created BAT file to prompt the creation of your very own Minecraft private server. Several files will be created once the server has completed manifesting itself.

You should now see a text file named "eula". Click this to take your computer into Notepad. By changing the text that reads "eula=false” into "eula=true", you can confirm that you have accepted the End User License Agreement. Then, save the document and close it. Double-click on the BAT file to restart server setup. If prompted to do so, click "Allow Access" in order to complete the process.

With all that out of the way, it's time to actually connect to your personal server and play! Open Minecraft as usual and click "Play." Click "Multiplayer," then click "Direct Connect" near to the bottom. You will see a text field that allows you to enter "localhost" in it. To open the server you are hosting, click "Join Server".

Of course, this would be a lot better with friends involved. To invite them to your private server you have to first make sure that port forwarding is enabled on your router, or that an exception is made in your computer's firewall. Open your router's page, and click on "Port Forwarding". You can create a new rule, such as "Minecraft", that you will remember. Make sure that your protocol is set to "TCP" and set up the entry and exit port as 25565. Save and reboot your router if needed.

Click here to get your public IP address. Make sure that you're giving out this line of text only to trusted people, as anyone with this address can join your game. Your friends can send your IP information to you to allow them to join your private servers. If they're not sure how exactly to do this, have them click on "Multiplayer," then "Direct Connect," then enter the IP address you just gave them. Soon, they should be able connect to you in-game.

And there you have it. It is important to only give this IP address out to trusted people. You can now enjoy your new private servers with friends. Twinfinite provides more information and guides.
