Turkey: Ministry to investigate Minecraft 'violence' News from Elsewhere... ... media reports from around the world, found by BBC Monitoring

It has been reported that Turkey's government is investigating claims that Minecraft, a popular computer game, is too violent.
The game is suitable to children aged seven years and over in Europe and older in the United States. The Haberturk website reports that Turkey's family- and social policies minister, AysenurIslam, has ordered an inquiry into allegations that the game encourages aggression. The website reports that the government could ban the entire country if it finds the violence to be too extreme. The move was prompted by a journalist who told Mrs Islam that players get points for killing other characters - including women - and asked what her ministry would be doing about it. The Pan European Game Information group, which assigns ratings to computer games, says Minecraft contains "non-realistic-looking violence towards characters which, although human, are not very detailed".
A journalist at one Turkish gaming magazine says the ministry's concerns are misplaced. Kaan Gezer from Leadergamer says that he has never seen a child use Minecraft to grab a sword or attack people. "Stories like this cause the video game industry in Turkey to stall or even deteriorate." Minecraft is extremely popular among gamers of all ages.
