Bending Borders - A Cultural Journey Through Transnational Spaces
The globalization of trade, culture, and technology are bending world borders and creating new transnational spaces. State political boundaries are no longer the definitive line in people's lives. While state political borders may no longer serve as a delineation, they remain contested terrains and sites of intense trade and interdiction. And, during times of war, desolate borders become hyperactive. In the process, new power centers emerge.

In the face of these challenges, the trend toward open borders is reversing. In the wake of SARS outbreak and terrorist attacks, more nations are opening their borders to create transnational spaces that promote interaction and self-awareness. The film program, which is free, focuses on the issues of immigration, asylum, and the role of borders in shaping globalization. The film's theme is "Bending the Borders: A Cultural Journey Through Transnational Spaces."

Despite the challenges faced by a globalized economy, the film program at the riverrun Global Film Series reflects a local perspective. A series of contemporary short films from Mexico will be screened on two days, followed by a discussion panel. On the panel, participants will include Ignacio Sanchez Prado, professor of geography at Canisius College, Richard Reitsma, and Abigail Cooke, faculty member of geography at Canisius College. On the other hand, a discussion panel will include Irene Rekhviashvili, director of Journey's End Refugee Services, Jennifer Connor, attorney at Justice for Migrant Families, and Alyss Erazo, of ECBA Volunteer Lawyers.

Bending Borders is an art exhibit, discussion panel, and documentary screening. Each day, the riverrun Global Film Series dedicates a film program to Mexican Cinema and Culture. By breaking down the walls in WNY, we hope to change the way the world views the world. So, if you're thinking about joining this event, get ready to make new friends. You'll have a blast! And Remember to Stay Connected

In addition to the short films, the GFS also hosts a discussion panel on borders. Speakers on the panel include Ignacio Sanchez Prado, Professor of Geography at Canisius College, and Irene Rekhviashvili, a lawyer with ECBA Volunteer Lawyers, Monica Wrobel, and Secil Ertorer, a professor of Sociology at Canisius College.

The film series has two days dedicated to Mexican Cinema and Culture. The goal is to build bridges and dialogues between the community and institutions of higher learning. Once we've built bridges between people of different backgrounds, we'll begin to see the world differently. And that's a good thing! By breaking down walls in WNY, we'll break down the walls all over the world. And by breaking down walls in WNY, we're doing more than just building bridges; we're breaking down barriers that divide people of all sorts.

Whether you're a student or a professional, there's a chance that you'll discover a world you've never been to. The GFS will present several short films from Mexico and will end with a discussion panel featuring Ignacio Sanchez Prado, Richard Reitsma, and Abigail Cooke. They'll discuss what it means to live in a borderland and learn about how others define themselves in other countries.

Besides the films, the GFS will feature a discussion panel, which will highlight the history and development of Mexican culture in the United States. During the panel, you'll be able to hear from Ignacio Sanchez Prado, a director and author of the film series. The program will also be followed by a discussion of the filmmakers' work, as well as the filmmakers' experiences while making the films.

In addition to these films, the GFS will feature a program of short films from Mexico. It will also feature a discussion panel with Ignacio Sanchez Prado and Richard Reitsma. They'll discuss the film festival's theme of "transnational space" and the importance of promoting multiculturalism. The panel will also explore the role of the film in redefining the meaning of border-breaking in WNY.

In addition to its films, the GFS will feature a discussion panel featuring filmmakers from Mexico and the United States. The speakers on the panel include Ignacio Sanchez Prado and Richard Reitsma, as well as Abigail Cooke, professors of geography at Canisius College, Irene Rekhviashvili, a lawyer for refugees and migrants, and Monica Wrobel, a professor of Sociology.
