The Problems With 'Possums
A lot of us feel better nature by placing bird feeders in your backyard. One in the problems related to bird feeders may be the unwanted guests that this bird feeder may attract.
If you are to set up a camera and take nighttime photos from the area beneath your bird feeder, selecting astounded by all the different animals that can arrive.
Opossums (possums), together with a great many other species seem to have a built-in GPS that knows the location of each and every bird feeder in the neighborhood. These animals make nightly house calls to scrub inside the seeds that birds have scattered in the grass within the bird feeder.
Although possums have an overabundance teeth (50) than any other North American animal, they often acquiesce to raccoons, but will often fight with skunks over those discarded bird-seeds. Some of the nighttime skunk odors you smell are caused by those skunk and possum confrontations.
As these nocturnal animals go and from a bird feeder, at times their route will need them down the foundation your property. They may visit your air conditioner to get a drink of water with the condensation pipe for the unit. That's when the real trouble begins.
Many ac units have openings in the frame on which the unit sits. Animals can squeeze through these openings and gain access to your crawlspace. Now they use a safe home to reside in, in close proximity to a water and meal source.
Not being house-broken, these animals deposit waste (usually down the inside foundation wall) below your house, and you'll will experience unpleasant odors filtering up into your home. Another problem primarily linked to possums are fleas.
Over check out the post right here , as fleas multiply on these animals some with the fleas will learn to surface from the floor and to the house. Our company gets several calls on a monthly basis from your home owners with flea problems who don't even own pets. Many times those fleas are the result of a possum or other animal inside the crawlspace.
Now onto a few of the more unpleasant possum problems. One is odor. Possums will exude an incredibly unpleasant green secretion occasionally of distress which is a good smell to behold. Possums also have a very short lifespan. Whether it's a design flaw, bad luck or just plain insufficient intelligence, possums continue to exist average only two years inside wild. If you have one living in the crawlspace video whole new level of possum problem.
Of each of the dead animals we remove from crawlspaces, approximately 80% are possums. The odor of a dead possum is one thing you truly need to avoid, as include the fleas looking for a new "live" host.
