A Minecraft modder has introduced new game-related issues for players to deal with in the form of climate change. Nick Porillo's GlobalWarming mod alters the climate by adjusting certain actions, such as melting ores. The temperature will rise as carbon emissions rise, leading to violent storms, forest fires and the loss of snowfall as climate change becomes more prevalent.
Planting trees to absorb carbon dioxide could aid in reducing the impacts of climate change. You can also purchase carbon offsets in order to combat the issue on a larger scale. This gives other players a reward for planting trees , that is in keeping with the mod's concept of working together to fight climate change.
"If the majority of players do not agree to be near-carbon-neutral in how they play, then the carbon score will increase in-game. If the damage is detrimental to the players, they will begin paying back that 'debt that they incurred," Porillo told Motherboard. "The idea is that if players put in a little more effort into their efforts from the beginning to avoid emitting a ton of carbon dioxide, they will avoid the price to be paid in the future."
He plans to add more features, including scoring cards that let you see who the least carbon-neutral players are. It will also allow you to find out your own carbon footprint, and adding methane as a third greenhouse gas. This mod is compatible with Minecraft Server Java Edition. It is available for download from GitHub.
