Minecraft streamer and creator of content Technoblade has died following an prolonged battle with stage four cancer, his family announced today in a public statement and video.
Techno had previously disclosed that he was diagnosed as having cancer in August. Techno has been updating his community periodically about his condition, and continues to receive treatment and creating content on YouTube.
In the video, released on June 30th, Techno's father read a final, posthumous message titled "so long nerds" specially written for the occasion. It was packed with the creator's signature dry humor and dark humor. However it also serves as an end-of-year "thank you" to all who have embraced the Minecraft star throughout the years.
"Thank you all for all your support for my work over the years. Technoblade would be my first choice should I have another 100 lives. Techno said that those were the most joyful years of my life.
"I hope you enjoyed my content and that it brought you joy. I love you guys and I wish you all the best for a long, happy and prosperous life. Technoblade out."
Techno, who reveals himself to be Alex Techno, explains how the money he made from the sale of merchandise and other "sell-out" pushes over the past year was used to send his siblings off to college. He also thanked his viewers for letting him share such happy moments with them. A slideshow of images that showcases him through the various stages of his treatment is displayed on the screen.
His father, who was there to hear Techno's final message describes how he initially planned to record and write the message prior to his death. However Techno's declining health and other circumstances prevented him from doing so. servers According to his father, he wrote the message from bed and passed away around eight hours later.
